DRAWING-BOARD.
Application filed February 5, 1910. Serial No. 542,231.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CORNELIUS C. IIAs- TINGs, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Springfield, in the county of Hampden and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Drawing-Boards, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in drawing boards, and particularly in means associated with the board for detachably retaining a T-square and one or more triangles in place on the board.
The invention consists, broadly, in providing a drawing-board of usual construction with a cleat at the end thereof, and on its underside with a groove through which the blade or tongue of the square may be passed, and clips secured to the cleat for retaining the T-square and the triangles in place, and yet at the same time permitting the easy removal when their use is required.
In the drawings forming part of this application,-Figure 1 is a bottom plan view of a drawing-board showing the cleats and spring-clips secured thereto for holding the T-square and triangles in place, and Flg. 2 is a vertical sectional view on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1, the section being taken through one of the spring-clips.
Referring to these drawings, a designates the drawing-board proper that is provided with cleats o and c at its opposite ends, and on the under side thereof. One of the cleats, as c, is provided with a transverse groove, indicated in dotted lines by tl, through which the tongue or blade e of the T-square is passed. The outer end of the blade also passes through a groove f in the cleat g indicates a series of spring-clips that are secured to the cleat c by means of the nails or other securing means shown at 7L. The outer ends of these clips are curved upward away from the board, as shown.
Intermediate the ends of the spring-clips is a depression z' that is formed therein for the purpose of entering the holes or openings j in the triangles shown at 7c and m, whereby these triangles may be detachably Specification of Letters Patent.

secured in the angles or corners formed by the sides of the blade of the T-square and the inner edge of the cleat c.
The dotted line 0 indicates one of the positions of the triangle m during its removal from the holding clip g. The blade e of the T-square is also provided with an opening for receiving the depression z' of the middle clip g whereby the T-square is detachably retained in position on the board; and in order to remove the saine, it is only necessary to simply draw the T-square outward by grasping the head of the square, as readily understood. lIt will be noticed that the cleat c is provided with a notched portion p for receiving the edge of the triangles 7c and m, as shown in Fig. 2, for the purpose of retaining the edge of the triangles in place and preventing their becoming displaced.
F rom this description, it will be seen that I have provided a simple means for detachably securing the T-square and triangles to a drawing-board and at the same time securely retaining these articles in place when not in use, as when the board is being carried by the draftsman from one place to another, as is often the case when drawings are being prepared.
It should be observed that the outer ends of the clips g are curved upward or away from the board a, as shown at r, in order to facilitate the easy insertion and removal of the triangles and T-square.
1. As an improvement in drawing-boards, the combination with the board proper, of a T-square and triangles, a cleat attached to one end of the board, elastic means for detachably securing the T-square and triangles to said board comprising spring clips having indentations or depressed portions therein and attached to the cleat, the T-square and triangles each having an opening therein into which the depressed portions of the clips enter.
2. In combination, a drawing-board, a T- square and triangles, said board having a grooved cleat at each end for receiving the blade of the T-square, and one of the cleats the vsaine may be detachably secured to the having agnotchedportion for receiving an board. l
