IMPROVEMENT IN STRAW-CUTTERS.

The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part. of the same.

To all 'whom 'it mayooncern Be it known that I, FRAN/fruit B. HUNT, of Richmond, in the county of Wayne, in the State of Indana, have invented a new and improved Mode of Adjusting the Gutter-Bars of Feed-Cutters; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference'marked thereon, in which- Figure 1 is a top view of the hearing-bar, lower halves of journal-boites to the cutter-shaft, side plates, and cutter-bar attached thereto.

Figure 2 is a side view of the same.

' B is the lower halves of the journal-boxes to the cutter-shaft.

A is side plates, having slots F, in which the upper feed-roll works.

D is an adjustable cutter-bar, in which are slots, through which the bolts .E E pass, and alsovthrough the bearing-bar'(l.

Other means could be substituted for holding the adjustable bar, against which the knife cuts, from slipping back, such as set-screws, working through a threaded lng, so that the end of the screw would press against the back ofthe bar, or the wedges a (t may beY so changed that they mayflie horizontally at the back of the bar, suitable provision being made for them on the bed-piece. 5

H aving'thus described my invention, 'hat I desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. Securing theadjustable cutter-bar D to the bearing-bar C, by means of bolts E l, the heads of which are fitted in the elongated slots G G, as and for the purpose described.

2. lhe adjusting-keys a a, or their equivalents, in

combination with the adjustable bar D, provided with vertical bolts, to hold it toits bed or bearings, substantially as and f'or the purpose shown and set fort-h.
