Description

W. ZIMMBRMAN.
Saok Scales.
Patented Nov. 9,1869.
@met @twine WILLIAM ZIMMERMAN, OF LEBANON, PENNSYLVANIA.
Letters Patent No. 96,7 59, dated November 9, 1869.
COMBINED BAG-HOLDER AND SCALES.
The Schedule referred tc in then-e Letters Patent and making part ofthe same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it'lmown that I, WILLIAM ZIMMERMAN, of Lebanon, inthe county of Lebanon, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and valuable Improvements in Bag-Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a. full, clear, and exact description o f the construct-ion and operation of the,
same, reference. being had-to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and Iigures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l, of the drawings, is a rear view of my invention, showing the weighing-device.
Figui-e2 is a central vertical section of the same.
Figure 4 is a detached View of that portion of the frame on which the platform rests, showing the compound lever.
My invention relates to bag-holders, and consists mainly in the construction and novel arrangement of devices whereby the illed sack isweighed when it falls upon the platform of the truck.
The letter A of the drawings designates a truckframe.
B B, the wheels thereof.
C C, braces, which assist in sustaining that portion of the frame on which the platform rests.
D D"nre cross-bals, pivoted, at Vthe points' 1 df, to the frame, forming a compound lever, connected to the scale-beam M by the bar e through the 'connecting-rod f. v
' The'bar c passes through a slot inthe central beam of the truck-frame. j
G is the platform, secured to the frame by the clamps g y, and supported ou the uprights h It, whose notched ends rest ou the pins 'n tn of the compound leverD D'.
It is apparent that a weight falling on the platform G, will depress it, and thus operate the weighing-scale M, 4suspended just under the truck-handles.-
K designates the bag-holding clamp, which consists of two metallic rings, whose meeting-surfaces are fitted closely to each other. t
The upper `ring, to which is attached a crescentshaped guide or fender, q, is secured to the top of-a sliding bar, l, which plays iu alongitudinal slot, formed in the Acent-ral beam of the truck-traine, and is adjusted to any desired height, by means of a clamp-screw and nut.
The sliding bar and groove show the dovetail-form in section;
The lower ring is hinged to the upper one, and, when the sack is adjusted, is secured to the upper ring by means of the clamp s.
The edge of the bag. is thus held firmly.
\Vheu filled, the clamp s is loosened, the lower-ring falls, Aand the sack is deposited on the platform G, and its weight noted, when it is conveyed away, to make room for another.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- A The bag-holder herein described, having fender q and" adjustable support I, in combination with the truck A, having braces C G- and platform-scale G, constructed and arranged to .operate substantially as specified. Y
In testimony that I claim the above, I have hereunto subscribed my name, iu the presence of two witnesses.
