This invention reiates to railways and particularly to sleepers and ties and means for fastening; a rail to the. sleeper.

An objeet of this! invention is to provide novel means Whereb)v the rail securingA bolts are removablvf1 applied to the sleepers, ine/.nm` being provided for preventing ythe rotation otl the said-bolts when the nnte` are applied thereto.

The tie hars C, and the clamps M, are preferably provided with longitudinally disposed slots c, and m, respectively, Which are adapted to aline with the recesses E, in the sleepers, and when the tie bar and clamps are in the position indicated, the slots c, 'and m, respectively, cross the apertures F.

I claim:l l. In a railway equllnnent, Isleepers havy ing grooves with recesses in the bottoms ot the grooves, apertures merging into the recesses, said apertures extending vertically and heilig elongated transversely otI the sleeper, tie bars having loiigitudinally dis- 'posed slots registering with the recesses ot the sleepers, clamps having slots adapted to 4 f register With the slots ofthe tie bars, bolts 'having transverselv elongated heads adapted `to turn in the recesses oit the sleepers under will be necessary to givey esegesi the tie bars and enter the apertures, and a sectional housing, the sections vof which are separated,` nearthe bottom ot' the sleeper adapted to engage the heads of the bolts.

2. ln a railway equipment, sleepers having grooves` With recesses in thel bottoms of the grooves, apertures merging into therecesses, tie bars having longitudinally disposed slots registering With the recesses in the sleepers, clamps having slots adapted to register With the slots' of the tie bars, bolts having transversely elongated heads adapted to turn in. the recesses of the sleepers under the tie bars .and enter the apertures, means on the bolts for holding the clamps in place, a housing near the bottom of the sleeper arranged in sections separated at points under the apertures adapted to en gage the heads of the bolts for their rotation.

In a railway equipment, sleepers having grooves with recesses in the bottoms thereof and apertures merging `into the recesses, said apertures extending vertically in the sleepers and being elongated transversely ot' the sleepers, tie bars having longitudinally disposed slots registering With the recesses in. the sleepers, clamps having slots adapted to register with the slots ot' the tie bars, bolts having transversely elongated heads arhuited to turn in the recesses or' the sleepers under the tie bars and enter the preventing transversely elongated apertures, anc'lmeans engaging the' heads ot the rotation of the bolts.
