Description
Patented Mar. 15, 1910.
61 Hoar/wags U nirnn ALBERT H. BOWERS, OF PERTH AMBOY, NEW JERSEY.
HAIRFWAVER.
Specification of Letters Patent. lg tented Rial, 15. i 9140. Application filed February 25, 1909.
Serial H0. 479,882.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT H. Bowlers, a citizen of the United States, residing at Perth Amboy, in the county of Middlesex and State of New Jersey, have invented crtain new and useful Improvements in Hair- Vavers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear,- and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which itappertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in hair wavers and has for its object to provide a simple and economical device of this kind by means of which the hair may be marcelled or artistically waved.
WVith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a p,lan view of a hair waver embodying my improvements; Fig. 2 is a side elevatlon, the parts swung somewhat apart; and Fig. 3 is a transverse section on line 3-3 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the wave forming member.
Referring to the drawings for a more particular description, of the invention, it will be seen that my improved hair waver coinprises two members, namely, a wave forming member 1, and a presser 2, which are pivotally connected, as at 3. The wave forming member 1.comprises an operating handle having a finger loop 4 at its free end. The inner end of this member is forked, as at 5, and is provided with a removable waveforming plate 6, which as shown more particularly in Fig. 3 ,is of square form incross section, providing a pair of corresponding" prong receiving depressions 7, and has its side edges turned inwardly, forming longitudinal arm receiving member 8, adapted to receive the arms 8 if the wave-forming member. The prcsscr member 2 also comprises an operating handle 9 provided at its free end with a finger engaging loop 10 and. at its inner end with a pair of corresponding longitudinal flat prongs 11 which are adapted to fit, in the depressions 7 of the wave-forming member 6. and are screwed to the threaded ends of the arms 12 of the presser member 2. i 1
l l l i a l 1 t I i,
In the operation of the device, the prongs 11 of .the presser member are passe through the hair and the operating handles 3 and 9 swung together to bring the prongs ll-into the depressions of the wave-forming member. By making the wave -forming portion of the member 1 of square form in cross section, it has been found that the hair will be very artistically marcelled or waved and will retain this appearance for a longer time than would otherwise be possible.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention, as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is: 1. A hair waver of the class described comprising'a wave forming member, aremovable wave forming plate provided with a pair of laterally spaced prong receiving depressions removably engaged with one end of'the 'wave forming member, a presser member-pivoted to the wave forming member-and provided at its pivoted end with a pair 'of laterally spaced arms provided with .threadedouter ends, and a pair of longitudinal'prongs: having flat bottom surfaces screwed to the arms of the prcsscr member.
,21 A hair waver conmrising a wave forming member ha ving-a pair of laterally spaced cylindrical arms at one end, a wave forming plate provided at opposite ends with longitudinal tubular portions adapted to reccivc the arms of the wave forming member. said tubular portions being formed by snitably bending the side. edges of the wave forming plate imvardly, a prcsser member pivoted to the wave forming member, and a pair of ynhngs at the pivoted end of they prcsser member.
in testimony \vhorool' l have hereunto set my hand in presence ol' two subscribing witnesscs.
\ Aldililtl ll. BOWERS. Witnesses:
BALTHASAR l [AFFN en, Louis Onn'rir.
