W/TNESSES [NI 'E/VTOR c./[ M 3' 64% W n rr srs CHARLES M. BLACKMAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO THE S. H. WETMORE COMPANY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK DISPLAY-BOX.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 31, 1910.
To all whom "it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLns M. BLACK- .u'xx, a citizen of the United States, and resident of the city of New York, in the State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Display-Box, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a box especially designed for the packaging of suspensory bandages, but which may be adapted to various other articles. The box is constructed and arranged so that ordinarily it forms a complete inclosure for the bandage and also so that the box may be opened and readjusted to form a display support for the bandages for use in window decoration, etc. The bandage is usually secured to a portion ofthe box so that it is completely inclosed when the box is closed for shlppmg or for delivery to a purchaser and so that it is rominently displayed when the box is re- 21(l3tlSlZ8d for display purposes.
An exemplifying structure embodying my invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
Figure 1 is a development of the box. Fig. 2 is a bottom View of the box when closed. Fig.3 is a top view of the box when closed. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the box opened for display.
The box consists of several. portions which may be conveniently called panels. Panel 1 is the bottom and is provided with a slit 2. Panel 3 may be provided ,with reading matter as indicated in Fig. 4. Panel 4 is between panels 1 and 3. The portion of the blank which constitutes panels 3 and 4 terminates in an end flap or tongue 5. This tongue may also be provided with reading matter as indicated in Fig. 4. At each side of panel 1 is a side flap 6. From the remaining edge of panel 1 the display card 7 extends. The card 7 is provided with a slit 8 and between panels 3 and 4 there is cut a slit 9 which forms a tongue 10 adapted to enter slit 8 in panel 7. The side edges of the display card 7 are provided with curved indentations 11 and may also have projecting arms 12. This shaping of the card and the provision of the arms afford convenient means for mounting the suspensory bandage on the card as will be understood by persons familiar with the art. In'some cases the arms 12 may be'omitted and in fact, the shape of the card may be greatly varied to adapt it to different forms of bandages or other articles. Certain portions vofthe blank are connected by narrow strips 13 which form the sides and ends of the box when folded as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. Between the different panels and flaps the blank is provided with suitable creases 14 to assist in folding it.
For display purposes the box is arranged as shown in Fig. 4 with the side flaps 6 bent upward under the arms 12 of the display card and with tongue 10 inserted in slit 8 of the display card; 7. This brings the display card, and panels 3 and'5 containing reading matter directly in line before the observer forming a very attractive and complete exhibit of the article which is exposed for sale.
For shipping and for delivery to a purchaser the box is folded as shown in Figs. 2 and 3 and is secured in this position by en gagement of the tongue 5 with slit 2 in the bottom 1 of the box.
Many changes in construction may be made within the spirit of the invention.
I claim:
1. In a display box the combination of a bottom, a display card, a cover portion and side portions, the display card being adapted to receive an. article to be displayed, the cover portion and display cards having engaging members for sup orting the display card in an elevated position in relation to the bottom and the side portions being adapted to engage the display card when in display position.
2. A box blank comprising a bottom portion provided with a slit, a panel extending from one side thereof, a second panel extending from the first, a slit intermediate said panels forming a tongue, a fiapextending from the last named panel, a display card extending from the opposite side of the bottom portion and provlded with a slit and side fiaps extending from the ends of the bottom portion.
