To all whom it they cancel-m' Beit known that I, JoHN J FLANsBUnGH, of the town of Berne, county of Albany, State of N ew York,

have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sausage-Stuffing Machines; and I do hereby declare that the following' is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a perspective view of, the ina- .chine as improved.

In making sausages, it is desirable to have `the plunger work' in the smiling-cylinder in a persistent and decided manner. To accomplish this, l operate the plunger by means of a suitable' screw worked by a crank or hand or band-wheel. The neck of the said screw is secured from being moved out from the end of the frame of the machine, while its screw-thread works into one end of' a sliding frame, working into guidingslots, and carrying a plunger.

To remove the inconveniences which' generally attend 'the filling of the stufiing-cylinder, I construct the mouth ofthe said cylinder sloping, either in a straight or convex or concave manner, from the top out to the bottom, so that the length. of the cylinder will be longer on its bottom line than on the top line, which enables the operator to perform his work of filling the said cylinder easier and quicker.

I also provide trunnions on the upper and lower sides of the cylinder, on which the said cylinder mayA swing round to one side, over a vessel containing the meat to be used, which will catch'fany of the material that may drop in the process of filling the cylinder.

A, figs. 1, 2, and 3, represents the frame of the machine, which maybe constructed of wood, oiany other suitable material.

The sidesof the frame are furnished, ontlleir insides, with guiding-grooves or recesses a a, in which work the guides b b ofthe sliding frame B.

The said sliding frame may be made of wood, or other suitable material, and have guiding-grooves a a, substituted for the guide-pieces l) b, while the frame could be furnished with guide-pieces b l), as substitutes for the grooves a c.

The sliding frame B is operated between the sides of the frame A by a screw, C, working in oueend of the said frame B, which, when the screw is turned by a crank, hand or band-wheel, D, or other similar device, draws the said sliding frame back, or moves it forward, the neck of the screw beingheld by a suit'able stop, o, let in the frame-end piece, and working in a recess formed in the neck of the said screw, as shown in fi' 2.

The `stuffing-cylinder F is 'provided with a sloping mouth, f, as'shown in fig; 4, and may be iliade of any suitable material, and is provided with trunuions g g placed on the sides Iof the said cylinder, above and below.

Thelower trunnin-works in ahole made in acrosspiece, h, of the frame, while the one above works in an eye of a branch brace, J, jointed to the top edges of the frame A, as shown in fig. 1.
