Description

tnted gisten @wat anni.
Letters lPatent No. 95,877, (lated October 19, 1869.
IMPROVED BOAT-DETACHING APPARATUS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent: and making part of the same To all whom 'it may concern Be it known that I, DANIEL S. BROWN, of Astoria, in the county of Olatsop, and State of Oregon, have invented a new and improved Boat-Detaching Apparatus; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and Vexact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a vertical longitudinal section of my improved boat-detaching/apparatus.
Figure 2 is a plan or top view ofthe same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. i
This invention relates to a new device for facilitating the instantaneous detachment of boats from their davits; and consists in such a new combination of rel taining-jaws with rods, levels, and catch, that the simultaneous detachment of both ends will be certain, and accidents on account of improper operation impossible. p
On each end of the boat A is arranged astationary jaw, B, which has a projecting ear, a, as shown.
To the ears a ofthe stationary jaws are pivoted, on theinner side of the boat, the movable jaws O C, which have their lower ends connected, by rods b b', re-
spectively, with the opposite ends of a bar, D, which is at its middle pivoted by a pin, c, to some fixed part of the boat.
rlhe bar D is a't.one end, by a rod, d, connected with a level', E, which is pivoted withinthe boat.
By swinging the lever E 0n its pivot c, the bar D will also be swung, so as to openor close the jaws both at once.
Vifhen the jaws are closed, as in lig. 1, to suspend the boat from the davits, the lever E is locked by a catch, F, which is pivoted to the under side of a seat, or in other equivalent manner.
The jaws should be oval, as shown, or Vyshaped, so as to instantly release the ring when opened.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patentlhe combination of the stationary jaws B and pivoted jaws O with the rods b b, bar D, lever E, rod d, and catch F, all arranged and operating substantially as herein shown and described.
DANIEL S. BROWN.
