Be it known that I, SOLOMON SADO, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rope Nets, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in rope nets, the object of the invention being to provide an improved rope net which comprises a series of longitudinal and a series of transverse runs at right angles to each other, and all com nosed of a single rope, the latter consisting of twisted strands, said rope being formed the net is formed and the strands of the longitudinal and transverse runs interlocked and interlaced where they cross each other.
IV ith this object in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure l is a plan View illustrating my improvements, and Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail view illustrating the two runs of the rope at their point of interlocking juncture.
In forming the rope from which the net is to be made, all of the strands which go to make up the rope are wrapped or turned around some fixed object, intermediate the ends of t-he strands, and then the strands twisted together, leaving this first end of the rope with the strands constituting a loop, as shown at l in Fig. l. The strands forming the rope are then twisted upon themselves and shaped around a suitable frame, not shown, to form the rectangular outline or outer portion 2, which comprises two parallel, longitudinal runs and two parallel transverse runs of the rope, as shown. IVhen the rope is twisted together of a length sufficient to form this Outline, some of the strands which go to make up the rope are positioned through the looped end l, and the twisting operation then continued for a distance equal to the distance between the reference characters l and 3, when the twisting strands of the rope first formed are untwisted and pulled apart sufficiently to allow strands of the newly made rope to be projected between them, as shown in Fig. 2, and then the operation of twisting to form the rope is continued and the transverse run 4 is formed, when the rope is again interlocked with the longitudinal run of the outline rope 2, and I would have it understood that in hereinafter referring to the interlocking rope sections, I refer to an interlock such as above described, and as shown most clearly in Fig. 2. The rope then extends longitudinally and interlocks at 6, then again transversely as shown at 7, interlocking at 8, and then longitudinally and interlocking at 9, then again transversely as shown at l() and interlocking at ll, then longitudinally and interlocking at 1Q, and 13, then transversely interlocking at ist, then lonigt-udinally, parallel with the longitudinal members of the outline interlocking with the runs 10, 7, 4f, and the end run 2, thence transversely again interlocking with the end run, thence longitudinally and again interlocking with the transverse runs 4L, 7 10, and the end run 2, then extending transversely and sewed or otherwise fixed to the outline frame as shown at 1S.
It will be observed that the entire netting is composed of a single rope whose strands are twisted during the formation of the net, and there is a perfect interlacing and interlocking between the longitudinal and transverse runs of the net. Thus a strong, durable structure is secured and one that is adapted for a great many different purposes, as for example in the making of nets, open work bags, hammocks, etc., but I do not of course, limit myself to any particular use.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. A rope net of the character described, composed of a single length of rope, of twisted strands forming both longitudinal and transverse runs, the strands of the longitudinal runs interlaced and interlocking with the strands of the transverse run.
2. A rope net composed of a single length of rope, consisting of twisted strands forming a rectangular outline and crossed longitudinal and transverse runs, the strands of the rope interlocking and interlacing at the points of crossing, and interlocked and inter lacing with the outline, substantially as set forth.
