Description

A. G; FRANKENHOPF.
LAP ROBE. Anmoa'non nun 1130.30, 1909.
Patented May 17, 1910.
I I IIIIIIIIILE I BEIGE,
ANTHONY G. FBANKENHOFF, OF ATGHISON, KANSAS.
LAP-ROBE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTHONY G. FRANK- ENHOFF, citizen of the United States, residing at Atchison, in the county of Atchison and State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Lap -Robes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to lap robes; and it consists in the peculiar and advantageous means, hereinafter described and claimed, for contributing to the warmth of the feet, for enabling the user to move either foot and actuate an automobile pedal without lessening the protection and comfort afforded by the robe, for precluding the possibility of the lap robe being displaced and lost from a vehicle when in use, and for enabling the user to see his feet when desirable and to quickly and easily disengage the same from the lap robe when necessity demands.
In the drawings, accompanying and forming part of this specification: Figure 1 is a broken rear or inside view of a lap robe equipped with my improvement. Fig. 2 is a vertical section taken in the plane indicated by the line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal vertical section taken through one of the foot-receivers of the improvement.
Similar letters designate corresponding parts in all of the views of the drawings, referring to which:
A is a lap robe which in general may be of the ordinary type-2'. 6., may be made in any desired form, of any material compatible with the purpose.
B is a strap, preferably of leather, which is comprised in the preferred embodiment of my invention and is utilized in the attachment of the remainder of the improvement to the inner side of the lap robe near the lower edge thereof. The said strap B is connected to the lap robe by stitches a and extends throughout the width of the robe. On each of its end portions the strap is provided with three (more or less) spaced rings 5, for a purpose hereinafter set forth.
In addition to the strap 13 bearing the rings 2;, my improvement comprises foot-receivers C that are movable independently of the lap robe to a limited extent, and flexible connections D intermediate the foot-receivers and the lap robe; the said flexible connec tions being, by preference, leather straps c which are adjustable as to length, are con nected to rings or eyes (Z on the tops of the Specification of Letters Patent.

foot-receivers, and are provided with snaphooks c, designed to be detachably connected to the rings 5. From this it follows that the foot-receivers O and their connections D may be readily disconnected from the lap robe when it is not desired to use the same; also, that the connections of the foot-receivers to the lap robe may be located at different distances apart as different con ditions make necessary.
In the practical use of a lap robe equipped with my improvement, the lap robe is arranged in the usual manner, and the user places the forward portions of his feet in the foot-receivers C. With this done, the feet of the user are kept warm and he is able to see his feet and move the same to advantage in manipulating pedals, and this without moving or disarranging the lap robe or otherwise detracting from the protection which it aifords. It will also be noted here that by reason of my improvement there is no liability of the feet of the user becoming entangled in the lap robe, but on the other hand the user can in an emergency quickly free his feet by merely withdrawing the same from the foot-receivers; and it will be further noted that by keeping his feet in the foot-receivers, the user is enabled to prevent the wind from displacing the lap robe and carrying the same out of the vehicle.
The foot-receivers C may be of any desired form and may be made of any suitable material without involving departure from the scope of my claimed invention. I prefer, however, to shape the foot-receivers as shown in order to enable the same to comfortably and snugly receive the fore parts of the feet, and I also prefer for each footreceiver to comprise a sole portion m, a vamp portion a, and a lining p of lambs wool or other heat-retaining material. The vamp portion at of each foot-receiver may be made of leather or any other material or materials without affecting my invention. I prefer, however, to have each vamp portion comprise an inner layer 1", of rubber, adapted to exclude moisture and retain heat, and an outer layer s, of astrakhan or equivalent material, adapted to retain heat; the rubber layer and astrakhan layer being suitably connected together and to the sole portion.
It will be gathered from the foregoing that the improvement as illustrated and described is adapted to be attached to lap robes that are at present in use as well as to new lap robes.
While I have shown and described one form of my invention, it is to be understood that I am not limited to the details or the form or relative arrangement of parts disclosed, but that modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit thereof.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is:
1. The combination of a lap-robe, a footreceiver that is movable as a whole to a limited extent independently of the lap robe, and a connection intermediate the lap robe and the foot-receiver.
2. The combination of a lap robe, footreceivers that are movable as a whole to a limited extent independently of the lap robe, flexible connections on the foot-receivers, and means on the lap-robe at intervals in the width thereof, whereby said connections may be attached to the robe at different distances apart.
3. The combination of a lap robe, footreceivers that are movable as a whole to a limited extent independently of the lap robe, flexible connections on the foot-receivers, provided with snap-hooks, and rings on the lap-robe at intervals in the width thereof for the engagement of the said snap-hooks.
4. An attachment for lap robes, comprising a strap adapted to be fastened to a lap robe, a foot-receiver movable as a whole to a limited extent with respect to the strap, and a flexible connection intermediate the strap and the foot-receiver.
5. An attachment for lap robes, comprising a strap adapted to be fastened to a lap ANTHONY Gr. FRANKENHOFF.
