UNITE r s,
MARGARET MCKUEN, OF GUELPH, ONTARIO, CANADA.
COMBINED WASHING-MACHINE AND BOILER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARGARET MCKUEN, a subject of His Majesty King Edward VII of Great Britain, residing at the city of Guelph, in the county of Vellington and Province of Ontario, Dominion of Canada, have invented a new or Improved Coinbined ashing Machine and Boiler, of which the following is a specification.
I combine the washing machine with an ordinary wash boiler with suitable arrangements to accommodate the same, and to facilitate the washing and boiling of the clothes, as shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure I is a longitudinal sectional elevation of my combined wash boiler and washing machine with the lid in elevation. Fig. II is a cross section of the same, the lid be ing shown in elevation. Fig. III is an under view of the removable lid with suspended agitators or dollies, and Fig. IV is a reduced plan of the wash boiler with lid removed, showing the perforated false bottom.
Similar letters of reference indicate similar parts in all the drawings.
A A is an ordinary sized wash boiler divided into two parts by means of the vertical partition a Fig. I. This boiler is provided with two false bottoms a a one for each sec tion consisting of perforated plates which are raised on a rim for the purpose of keeping the clothes from the bottom of the boiler. l/Vire handles or bails I Fig. I are provided for the purpose of lifting the boiler, also a tap or taps J Fig. II for emptying the same.
The boiler is provided with lids B B Fig. I oppositely hinged to the removable bridge Z) and when closed they are secured by means of the hasps H. They are deep enough to carry the operating mechanism or gearing F which is secured to the under or inner side of the lid. This gearing operates the dolly or agitator O suspended therefrom by means 7 Specification of Letters Patent.

of a square vertical stem I) provided at its upper end with the rubber washer c and wooden handle E.
The dolly C consists of the usual three legged device with a square vertical stem D passing loosely through a horizontal beveled gear wheel operated by a vertical beveled gear wheel which in turn is operated by means of the crank handle f on a suitable horizontal shaft journaled in suitable bearings in the lid B.
The bridge I) carrying the hinged lids B 13 rests on the top of the sides of the boiler A and can be secured thereto by means of suitable clips or hasps not shown.
As will readily be seen two lots of clothes can be boiled or washed at the same time without removing the boiler from the stove, while by throwing either of the lids back upon the other the dolly is lifted clear of the clothes and they can easily be removed from or placed in the boiler or the whole lid can be lifted off by means of the wooden handles on the tops of the dolly stems, and placed aside, and a suitable wringer can then be attached to the middle partition, while by means of the taps the water can be run off when the washing is finished thus greatly facilitating the removal of the boiler from the stove.
I claim:
In combination with a wash boiler divided into two compartments, a removable center bridge, hinged lids attached to and carried by said bridge; said lids carrying on their under side, means for operating a dolly, and slidable vertical dolly stems surmounted with non-conducting knobs for the purpose of raising the lids singly or together from the top of the wash boiler, substantially as described.
MARGARET McKUEN.
D. H. BARLOW.
