-WILLIAM J. MILLER ANI) JAMES W. CAMPBELL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
Letters Patent No.v 95,598, dated October 5, 1869.
Hoon- IMPROVEMENT IN MOULDING-S 0F WOOD.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
, To all whom it may concern:
Be it knownl that we,WILL1AM J. MILLER :und JAMEs'W. CAMPBELL, both ol' New York, in the county of New York, nud in the State of New York, have invented certain new ind useful Improvements iu-the llunufecture of Mouldings; and do hereby declerc that the following is at full, clear, and exact de` scription thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a. part oi' this specification.
The netureotour invention consists in cutting the two parts ol' zt deep moulding out ot' one piece of thin lumber et the saune operution, and simultaneously with the mouldingmmchine, land afterward gluing them together, thereby producing t moulding otl uniform grain and color throughout.
Heretofore deep mouldings have been made by making the top and bottoni separately and then gluing them together, but by our process we mak-e top and bottom at the sil-me time, and both are the same color and the same grain in all moulding's offene-y wood.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which our invention eppertnins, to make the sume, we will now proceed to describe the manner in which the sinne is accomplished, referring to the annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1 is'eu cross-section, :tud
Figure 2, :t bottom view.
We take a thin piece of lum-ber, or lumber of any suitable thickness, and. bythe use of it moulding-ma chine we form :t piut of this piece of wood for the bottom, A, of the'inoulding, sind bottom having o. groove in it, in which the top is inserted.
At the same time the other part of the piece of wood is formed on both sides in propel' sli-tpe for the top part B, and seperated from the bottom A of the moulding, one edge of said top piu-t being provided with :t tongue to tit in the groove formed in the bottom A.
The top is then inserted in the bottom, :tud glued fast to the same.
By this means we are enabled to ineke mouldings of thin lumber, and at one time, the gratin of the two pieces being the same.
Having thus fully described our invention,
What we claim as new, end desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A moulding, constructed substzintiallyas herein specilied.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing, wehavfe hereunto set our hands, this 18th 'day ofJ'une, 1869.
- W. J. MILLER.
J AS. NV. CAMPBELL.
