Description

. D, WILBE. HINGE.
APPLICATION FILED JULY 28, 1905.

@mw l tronm UNITE@ @TATE PATENT FFIQE.
DANIEL WILBE, OF WASHINGTON, IOWA.
HINGE.
Application filed July 28, 1905.
o @ZZ whom i may concern.
Re it known that I, DANIEL VVILDE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wash-- ington, in the county of `Washington and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hinges, of which the following is a speciication.
My invention relates to an improvement in hinges for window screens, storm windows and the like and the object of my invention is to provide a hinge on the inside of the sash or window frame instead of the outside as is generally the custom, and thereby prevent to a great extent, if not absolutely, the tendency of the hinge to rust and cause streaks of rust to run down and n'iar the appearance of the window frame or sash.
My invention further consists in certain other novel features of construction and combination of parts which will be herein after described and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a view in side elevation of my invention, Fig. 2 is a vertical section, Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional'view showing the sash in eX- tended position, and Fig. A is a detail.
A, represents the window frame, and B is the sash of a storm window, screen or the like. Secured at the top of the sash B, are hinge-members l, l, which may be of sheet metal or wire, as desired; which are secured at one end by means of eye-bolts or screws Q, 2, passing through an orifice 3 in the hinge member, and are fastened at their op- Speccaton of Letters Patent.
Patented Dee. l?, NW9.
Serial No. 271,666.
posite ends by hooks l, el, and at the top ot 7 the window frame A are secured lugs 5, 5, which act as complementary hinge members of the hinge member l.
In putting in the sash or screen in the window trame, all that is necessary is to open the window at the top and bottom, when the sash or screen may be passed out and secured in place in the window frame, by means of the hinges.
It will be readily seen from the foregoing that I have provided means whereby a sash tor storm windows, screens, stationary windows and the like can be easily fitted and placed in a window from the inside of the house, and doing away with the necessity of using a ladder.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A hinge for windows and the like, com prising flexible rods pivoted at one end to the window sash, pins on the frame at a point between the ends of the rods over which they are hooked, and means on the window sash engaged'by the free ends or' the rods for connecting the window sash to the frame, thereby forming a pivotal connection between the window and frame.
In testimony whereof I aHiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
