UNITED STATES PATEN FFICE.
casn FOR SHAVING APPLIANCES.-
942,483. Specification of To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, W ALTER L. CLARK, a citizen of the United States,'and a resident of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cases for Shaving Appliances, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to boxes or cases for shaving implements, and is particularly mtended to provide a simple, compact and i convenient case which will hold a. razor of the kind known in the market as the Gillette razor together with a number of extra blades for the same, the various features of construction and arrangement in which my invention resides being hereinafter set forth.
1n the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a central longitudinal section through one form of case made in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section through the same case, on a plane at- Q on opposite sides of the central perforation,-
right angles to the plane of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a plan view of the case with its cover removed; Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the internal parts of the case; Fig.5 shows a blank from which the parts shown in Fig. 4 may be formed; Figs. 6, 7, 8 and 9 are views similar to Figs. 2, 3, 4 and 5 respectively, but showing a modified construction, the plane of section of Fig. 6 being indicated by the line ma2 in Fig. 7.
Referring first to Figs. 1 to 5 of the drawings, the case therein shown comprises a hollow body portion 2 having the general outlines shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 and provided with a cap or cover 3 telescopically fitted to its upper end, said parts being preferably made of thin sheet metal. Within the body portion 2 is located a partition piece or arrangement of partitionwalls which may conveniently be made from a single blank or piece of sheet metal having, before being bent, the outline shown in Fig. 5 and cut on the lines indicated in said figure, the solid lines indicating lines of cut and the dotted lines indicating lines of bending. This blank, after having been cut as shown, is bent to the form shown in Fig. 4, thus providin a horizontal top piece 4 having the same iongitudinal and transverse dimensions as the top of the body portion 2 and ada ted to fit closely within the same, and also aving its sides notched as at 5, from the inner edges of which notches two walls 6 extend are open at the top as shown.

! downward, said walls being provided with outwardly or forwardly extending side and bottom edges 7 and 8. The portions 9 at the ends of the top piece 4 form downwardly-extending lugs, the parts being so I proportioned that when the completed partition piece is inserted into the body portion 2 i the lugs 9 will bear against the ends of the same, while the free edges of the portions 7 l and 8 will bear against the sides of said body portion and thus provide, in connection with l the side walls of the latter, pockets 10 which The top portion 4 conforms to and fits closely within the i top of the-body portion 2 and is held in horizontal position at or near the top of the latter by suitable means such as ridges or ini dentations 11 formed in the ends of said I body portion, upon which ridges the lugs 9 rest and thus support the partition piece in the desired position. The top portion 4 is also provided with a central perforation 12 and with two other perforations 13 located which perforations are of such size and in i such position with" respect to one another that they are capable of receiving simultaneously the handle 14 of a Gillette razor (shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1) and the positioning pins 15 which project from the head of the razor in the same direction as l the handle, thus permitting thehead of the razor to rest upon the top portion 4, where itis prevented frometurning by the enga ement of the positioning pins with the wa ls of the perforations into which they are inserted. The telescopic cover 3 is so fitted to the body portion of the case that when applied thereto its inner surface will bear against the outer face of the head of the razor, as shown in Fig. 1, and thus the razor is confined against movement in any direction and prevented from rattlingwithin the case, while it is readily accessible for removal when the cover 3 is taken ofi. The
pockets 10 are intended to receive extrav l hold not only a Gillette razor and the extra.
blades therefor but also a shaving brush, or l top piece having blade-pocket walls extenda stick or tube of shaving soap or shaving cream. tion 2r is cylindrical and the top portion at of the partition piece is circular, except for formed from the blank shown in Fig. 9 and shown in Fig. 5. The top portion 4' is provided with the perforations 12' and 13 to receive the razor handle and positioning pins, and also with an additional perforation which receives the upper end of a cylindrical tube 17 extending downward therefrom and adapted to rest upon the bottom of the body portion :2, said tube 17 being preferably secured to the top portion 4' and thus serving to support the partition piece in the desired pcsition. This tube forms a receptacle for a shaving brush or other shaving appliance, and preferably contains a metallic spring 18, one end of which is riveted to the tube in such' position that the spring will bear against the contents of said tube with sutlicient force to prevent the latter from rattling therein, without interfering with its removal therefrom.
\Vith either of the constructions above described the partition piece and its attached parts are preferably held in place in the body portionby friction only, so that they may be readilyremoved if desired, but they may be permanently attached to said body portion if preferred, and ,may be variously modified in their details of construction and arrangement without departing from my invention, as will be evident.
I claim as my invention:
1. A razor case comprising a hollow body portion provided with a transversely-extending top piece adapted to support the head of a safety razor and formed to-permit the handle of the same to pass lengthwise into said body portion, and blade pockets located between the walls of the body portion and the space which receives the handle of the 3.
