To all whom fit may concern:

Be it known that I, FREDERICK B. Wai/rau, a citizen ot' the United States, residing at Chicago, in the eounty of (look and State of Illinois, have invented 'certain new and useful Improvements in Hair-Cutting Instruments; and l do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description otl Ythe invention, sueh as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to hair cutting instruments and has for its object the provision oi' an instrument of sueh character that by its use, the use of scissors and hair clippers may be avoided, the instrument being so constructed and of such character that the hair cutting operation may be performed in mueh less time and in a more satisfactory manner than is possible in the use ot scissors and clippers. The instrument is, in ei'eet, a hair razor.

llroadly stated, the instrument eomprises a flat body provided along its lengthwise edges with teeth and a blade supported upoxr the body in such a manner as to be adjust- \able to and from the body, the blade having two 'utting edges each ot' which is parallel with respect. to the point ot' one set o'f teeth. By providing for this adjustment, the instrument may be adapted to eut a persons hairl to any desired length and it is in this feature that the principal novelty lies.

As shown in the drawings, the instrument comprises a flat body Which may be formed of metal, hard rubber, eelluloid, bone or any other suitable. material from which combs are usually made and eomprises a handle 5 and a working portion (S along the longitudinal edges of which are formed series ot teeth '7. From the foregoing description of my invention it will be seen that I have provided an instrument for the purpose stated which may be more advantageously used' than similar instruments now employed and that the adjustability ot the blade with respect to the working portion ot' the body of the device, permits ot' the useneutting a persons hair to the proper length. It n ill t'urther be understood that the instrun'ient may be used in either hand and that instead ot' the upstrokes necessary with scissors and clippers, a downward stroke is all that is required in the use of my instrument embodied in my invention.

An instrument ot thel class described comprising a body provided with teeth, a threaded stud formed upon the body, a blade provided with a threaded aperture engaged upon the stud, said blade being adjustable to or from the body by rotation upon thestud. and a lock nut held upon said stud to secure said blade in adjusted position thereon.
