To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Fnnnnron Mnsonno, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bayonne, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a specification.

This invention has relation to certain new and useful improvements in toys.

The object of my invention is to provide a neat, instructive and entertaining whirling toy, which may be used to play a game in which the factor of chance is present.

A further object is to provide a toy arranged to be whirled to produce a whistling noise.

With the above and other objects in view, the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that changes in the specific structure shown and described may be made within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, Figure 1 shows a side view of a toy embodying my invention. Fig. 2 shows an edge view partly in section. Fig. 3 shows a broken enlarged detail of the car disclosing the same in side elevation.

In the accompanying drawings the numeral 5 designates two similar members in the form of disks provided with an obliquely held peripheral flange 6. These members 5 are preferably made of sheet metal and are held against a hub 7 through the center of which extends the securing pin 8 firmly connecting the two disk members to the hub. These disk members as well as the hub 7 have two oppositely positioned apertures 9 within which is held the operating strand which may be secured at its ends to the handles 11.

Revolubly held upon the hub 7, is the collar 12 from which extends the stem 13 the outer end of which is threaded and carries the set nut 15 the end of the stem being slightly flanged to prevent the removal of the set nut.

Carried upon the stem 13, is a member I term the car which car has the curved under surface 16 corresponding to the curvature of the flanges 6. This car 17 is centrally provided with an opening 19 of a size permitting the free movement of the car upon the stem. At each end, this car 17 is provided with a downwardly extending flange 20 arranged to be held between the disks. Each of the disks is provided with an inwardly directed circumscribing bead 22, and the flanges 20 are arranged to be held between these beads 22 as disclosed in Fig. 2, preventing any lateral displacement of the car 17.

Held upon the stem 13, and secured to the car 17 is the duplex pointer 25 arranged to extend over the peripheral flanges 6 as clearly dislosed. Held upon this pointer is the coil spring 26 which at its upper end works against the under surface of the set nut 15. By means of this spring 26 the car 17 is normally forced against the flanges 6 and held thereupon under spring tension.

As shown, the flanges 6 are provided with a series of apertures 27 so spaced that the flange portions between these apertures will be of two widths as shown at 29 and 30. The flange spaces 29 and 30 of the two members 5 are held in opposite spaced relation, the narrow spaces 29 being provided with numerals or indicia of values, while the wider spaces 30 are provided with pictorial representations, the picture of a male appearing upon one flange and that of a female upon the opposite space 30.

In the operation of the toy, a number of players may take part, these players either selecting a number or a picture. The opera tor of the toy then carries the toy in a circular motion so that the supporting strand ends become twisted and then permits the twisted strand to lengthen or shorten resulting in the toy being rapidly twirled in a circular path. The car 17 is in normal con tact with the flanges 6. However, upon the rapid rotation of the toy, the car flies outward against the tension of the spring 26. The instant, however, that the toy stops revolving the car is again forced against the flanges, at a point, the chances are, remote to that occupied by the car when the toy was started. The duplex pointer 25 will then be opposite one of the blanks or openings 27 or opposite one of the numerals or pictures. As two pointers are used two players have a chance of winning.

The toy is simple and inexpensive in construction and forms an entertaining amusement device.

Having thus described my said invention,

what I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:

1. In combination, two circular members each having a peripheral flange, a collar revolubly carried between said members having a projecting stem, and a pointer carried upon said stem and held proximal to said flanges.

2. In combination, a hub having oppositely positioned apertures, two similar disks each having an outwardly directed flange secured to said hub, a collar loosely working upon said hub having a projecting stem, and a spring held pointer carried upon said stem.

3. The combination with a hub having two apertures, of two similar disks having outwardly directed flanges secured to said hub and held in spaced relation, a collar upon said hub having an extending stem threaded at its end, a set nut upon said stem, a pointer slidably held upon said stem, and a spring interposed between said nut and pointer.

a. The combination with a hub, of two similar disks each having an outwardly directed flange secured to said hub, said hub having oppositely positioned apertures, a collar revolubly carried upon said hub having a projecting threaded stem, a car slidably held upon said stem having extending flanges held between said disks, a duplex pointer carried by said car, a set nut upon said stem, and a spring between said set nut and car.

5. The combination with two similar disks held in spaced relation each having an outwardly extending ciroumscribing flange, said flanges being provided with pictorial representations and numerals, ofamembertraveling between said flanges, and a spring held pointer carried upon said member, said pointer at times contacting with said flanges.

6. In a device of the character described, two similar disks each provided with a peripheral flange, means to hold said disks in spaced relation, a traveling member held between said disks, a spring pressed pointer carried upon said traveling member, said flanges having indicia of values and two oppositely positioned apertures, and an endless strand passing through said apertures.
