WASHING-MACHINE ATTACHMENT FOR STATIONARY wAsHTuB's.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, TILLIAM VVAL'roN, J12, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, Brooklyn Hills, borough of Queens, in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Washing-Machine Attachment for Stationary Washtubs, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention is a Washing machine attachment for stationary wash tubs, and is designed to provide awashing apparatus embodying a washing cylinder which may be readily applied to and operated'in stationary tubs of various sizes, and the cylinder easily removed when desired to use the tub in the usual manner.
The invention in general consists of hangers having means to detachably apply them to the opposite sides of the tub, a' washing cylinder removably journaledin the hangers and having an attached gear, and a shaft removably journa'led on the attaching means of one of the hangers, having an operating crankat its outer end and a' gear at its inner end in mesh with the gear of the washing cylinder, the other hanger being adjustable'to and t'rom the hanger adjacent to the gears, to accommodate the washingcylinder to tubs of various lengths. Reference is to he had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views. A

In order'to offset any tendency of the hanger 11 turning on the clamp 13, the latter has flanges 13 arranged at opposite sides in engagementgwith the edgesof the'foot.
The frame -.of the screw-clampl7 for the hanger12 is formed .integrallytherewi'th by bending the upper portion of the hanger into U-form. The upperiface of the clamp 17 carries a sectional bearing 18, the upper section of which is hinged .at one side to swing to and from the lower-section, and at its opposite side is provided with a slot 18 to receive a button Orlatch 18 carried by the lower section of the bearing and oper ating to secure the two sections of the bear ing together. Within the bearing 18 is journaled a shaft 19 having a detachable operating'crank' 20 at its outer end and a gear 21 secured to its inner end, the latter when the shaft is in operative position within the bearing, meshing witha gear 22 fixed to a washing cylinder or drum 23. I The drum 23 has a stub shaft 24 at each end journaled in the lower ends of the hangers 11 and 12. For this) purpose the lower. end portions of the hangers each has a downwardly and. in-
wardly-inclined slot 25 entering the hanger V at the side and provided with an enlargement 26 at the lower end, the latter receivin one of the stub shafts of the washing cy inder and preventing the latter from being accidentally dislocated. The bottom edge of the slot 25 extends beyond 1ts upper edge, which obviously facilitatesthe placing of the drums in the hangers, since on lower-,

In the applicatidn of the attachment tothe tub the hangers are first applied and the hanger '11 adjusted a distance from the hanger 12 to accommodate the Washing cylinder to the length of the tub. The drum is then easily dropped into the hangers and the shaft 19 locked in the sectional hearing, when the apparatus is in rea iiness for washing purposes. lhe Washing drum is erforated and rovidecl with a periphera door 27 for the introduction and removal of the clothes, as is the usual practice in washing machine construction.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
In a washing machine attachment for stationary wash tubs, hangers having clamps to engage over the top edges of the tub and secure the hangers thereto at opposite sides,
and a washing cylinder journaled in the lower end portions of the hangers and removable therefrom ancl applicable thereto while the clamps are applied to the tub,with one of said han ers admstable on its clamp to move to and rom the other hanger to accommodate the washing cylixfder to tubs of difierent lengths.
