A. C. JUDSON, OF GRAND RAPIDS, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND E. O. JUDSON, OF SAME PLACE.
INIPROVEMENT IN PLOWS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making prt of the same.
To all whom it may concern` Be it known that I, A. C. J unsos, of Grand Rapids, iny the county of \Voofl, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Plows; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', which willv enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in plows, and has for its object to provide an improved construction of beamarheel attachment and drawing-attachments.
Figure 1 represents a side elevation of my improved plow.
Figure 2 represents a plan view 4of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The landside A and mould-board B are made in t\ro parts, to be joined at the front.
C represents a Coulter', which is made of a ilat plate of steel, properly shaped, as shown in the drawing, and placed between the trout ends of-t-he mould-board and landside previous to riveting. The rivets pass through all three of the parts, securing them tirnlly.
W'hen the c oulter becomes worn, it maybe removed for grinding by punching out the rivets, and it is secured again as lirst stated.
I propose to make the plow-beam of two parts, I), bolted to the side of stock E at the rear, and connected behind the space for the wheel by a bolt, F, passing through ablook, G, which maintains the parts the proper distance apart.
The said bolt is secured by a screw-nut, which may be unscrewed to permit the spreading of the parts, for adjusting the wheel H, which I propose to make as broad and large as can be convenient-l57 done, for rolling easy and breaking down the stubble in advance ofthe plow.
This wheel I arrange in bearings in plates I, having a series of bearing-holes, for changing the journals, to vary the elevation of the beam for different depths of cutting.
Instead of the elevis commonly used, in order to placethe wheel as close to the end as possible., or to use a short beam, I connect two perforated plates, K, to the beam, one on each side, and connect thereto a crotchet-clevis, L, straddling the front ofthe wheel.
This also is int-ended to be adjustable, and the adjustment is made by spreading the two parts of the beam apart, t-he same as for adjusting the wheel.
The conlter may, if preferred, have a heilt shank, turning back and resting against the stock E, as represented in red at M.
Having thus described my invention,
, That I claim as new, and desire. to secure by Letters Patent, is-
'Ihe arrangement of the beam in two parts D, stock E, bolt F, block G, wheel H, draw-plates K, clevis L, and bearing-plates I, all substantially as specified.
A. C. JUDSON.
