To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES S. SNYDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rolls for ool-Thread Machines, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improved rolls for wool thread machines, the object of the invention being to provide rolls of an improved construction which will facilitate the drawing of the thread, which will economize the production by reason of its minimizing repairs and expensive labor and which supports strips of flexible material with ends projecting from the rolls and wiping against adjacent rolls to keep the latter clean.

Vl ith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1, is a view in section illustrating the rolls drawing the wool thread. Fig. 2, is a perspective view of a pair of my improved rolls, and Fig. 3, is a view in section of a modified construction of roll.

1, 2 and 3 represent the ordinary feed rolls of a wool thread drawing machine between which, and the fluted rolls 4, the wool thread 5 is drawn out and moved between my improved rolls 6 and the fluted roll 7, to be drawn out to a single strand or thread.

Heretofore rolls, corresponding to my improved rolls, have been made of wood covered with felt which not only catches the lint and has numerous other disadvantages but is expensive to keep in repair and require skilled labor of a high order to replace the felt and keep the rolls in condition. My improved rolls are constructed of rubber of sufficient hardness to withstand the strains and stresses upon them but sufficiently soft to have an elastic engagement with the thread 5 and the fluted roll 7 and overcome the defects of the rolls heretofore in use. A strip of flexible material 8 which may be of various material, such as skin, paper, etc., is glued around each roll 6, with the end of the strip left free and of a length suflicient to wipe against rolls 3 at every revolution of rolls 6, thus maintaining rolls 3 free from lint and dirt and adding greatly to the effectiveness of the device improvement of the thread produced.

In Fig. 3 I illustrate a modification which comprises a disk 9 of wood with a tire or cover 10 of rubber all around the same. This enables the employment of the old wooden rolls in general use by removing the felt covering, turning down the wooden disk and fixing the rubber covering thereon.

Various other slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of the parts described without departing from my invention and hence I do not restrict myself to the precise details set forth but consider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is z- 1. A roll of the character described, composed partly of rubber, and a strip of flexible material secured around said roll and having one end free and of a length sufficient to wipe against an adjacent roll.

2. In combination with two rolls located adjacent each other, one roll composed of rubber, and a strip of flexible material secured around said rubber roll and having one end free and of a length sufficient to wipe against the other roll at every revolution of the rubber roll.

3. A roll of the character described, composed of rubber, and a strip of skin secured around the roll and having one end free, projecting out from the roll, and of a length sufiicient to wipe against an adjacent roll, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
