UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ELMER M. JOHNSON, OF ST. CLOUD, MINNESOTA.
CUFF-HOLDER.
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELMER M. J or INsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Cloud, in the county of Stearns and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gulf-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to devices to be securedto the coat sleeve to support the dress cuff and has for its object the provision of a device consisting of a plate having a plurality. of slots therein and secured to the inner side of the sleeve, the slots being adapted to receive the head of a stud secured to the cufl, said head being preferably pivotally secured to the stud shank for ease in attaching and releasing the cult.
My invention will be described in detail hereinafter and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a fragmental sectional view of a coat sleeve showing my improved cufl' holder in position and the cuff attached thereto, Fig. 2, a top plan view of the fastener on an enlarged scale, Fig. 3, a longitudinal sectional view, Fig. 4, a cross section, and Fig. 5, a view of a modification.
In the drawings similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
A indicates the coat sleeve and 15 the anti.
My improved cutl' holder consists of a plate 1 of rigid material having its long edges turned downwardly to form flanges as shown at 2 and provided with holes 3 at the ends to receive threads, pins or any other means for securing the plate to the coat sleeve A. The flanges 2 serve the purpose of Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 12, 1907.
Patented Jan. 4, 1910.
Serial No. 397,133.
stiffening the plate as well as forming a recess 4 between the plate and sleeve to receive the head of stud 5 that is attached to cutl' B and inserted through one of the series of slots 6 in plate 1. The plurality of slots 6 permits adjustment of the cuff so that more or less of it may show beyond the end of the coat sleeve as desired. For ease in attaching and detaching the cuff I prefer that the head of stud 5 be pivotally secured to the shank.
In the modified form shown in Fig. 5, a notch 3 is provided in one flange 2 while a clasp pin 3" is secured to the other flange and adapted to engage notch 3. (3 indicates the transverse slots in the modified form.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is A cufl' holder consisting of a plate having a plurality of slots therein and its sides turned downwardly at right angles thereto to form depending flanges, a clasp pin secured to one flange and the other flange provided with a notch to receive the end of said pin when secured to the inside of a coat sleeve, said flanges forming a recess between the plate and coat sleeve, and a stud adapted to be secured to a cuff and to be secured in the slots in the plate with its head resting in the recess between the plate and coat sleeve.
In testimony whereof I hereto allix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ELMER M. JOHNSON.
