FOUNTAIN ATTACHMENT FOR PENHOLDERS.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, DENNIS O. VAUGHAN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at McPherson, in the county of McPherson and State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Fountain Attachments for Penholders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to fountain attachments for pen holders, and one of the principal objects of the same is to provide an ink-holding attachment for pen holders which will not interfere with the flexibility of the nibs of the pen and which will not interfere with the removal of the pen from the holder.

Another object of the invention is to provide a simple, reliable and efficient fountain attachment for pen holders which can be removed and replaced independently of the pen, which will not interfere with the independent removal of the pen, which will not interfere with the flexibility of the nibs and which will feed ink to the pen in the required quantity without liability to blot or to flood.

These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,-

Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of a pen holder of the ordinary construction, showing a pen and my fountain attachment connected thereto. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view on the line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of my fountain attachment removed from the pen holder.

Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates the staff of a pen holder provided with a tube 2 atits end, said tube being provided with a longitudinal slot. A ferrule i surrounds the lower end of the pen holder and may be provided with a rubber or roughened grip 5. This pen holder is of the ordinary construction and is well adapted for supporting my attachment in place under the pen 6 which is also of any suitable type and held in the pen holder in the usual manner.

My fountain attachment may be made of sheet aluminum or other similar noncorrodible material, said attachment consisting of substantially flat shank 7 having curved flanges 8, one at each side thereof. Extending from the shank 7 is a reduced and curved neck portion 9. From the neck portion 9 Specification of Letters Patent.

the attachment is extended to a point 10 having converging side flanges 11 and the bottom of said portion being concaved or spoon-like, at 12. The side flanges 11 are gradually tapered off to lie substantially flush with the bottom at the front end 10. A slit 13 is formed in the attachment and extends from the shank 7 to the point 10 to give flexibility to the attachment and to prevent interference with the movements of the nibs a of the pen. Perforations 1 1 are formed in the attachment at a point in front of the neck 9.

My attachment is connected to the tube 2 of the pen holder by extending the flat portion 7 into the slot 3, the two curved flanges 8 lying against the tube 2 below the slot and holding the attachment in place by friction. The point 10 of the fountain lies substantially under the nibs of the pen, and said attachment being made of a flexible material, like thin sheet aluminum will move with the nibs of the pen to feed the required amount of ink to the pen point.

My attachment is of simple construction, may be applied to ordinary pen holders, will .not interfere with the removal or replacement of a pen, may be removed independently of the pen, will hold a quantity of ink ready to be fed to the nibs of a pen and will not flood when laid down upon a desk or table when filled with ink.

I claim 1. A fountain attachment for pen holders comprising a shank, curved flanges, one at each side of said shank, a curved reduced neck portion, a pointed spoon-like reservoir having converging side flanges, said attachment being longitudinally slotted and provided with perforations.

2. A fountain attachment for pen holders comprising a flat shank having a curved flange at each edge thereof, in combination with a pen holder having a tube at its lower end provided with a transverse slot, said attachment having a reduced neck portion extending from the shank, a pointed reservoir, and converging side flanges.
