.Letters Patent No. 93,890, dated August 17, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN BRICK DRAIN-TILE.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I,V NORRIS J ONES, of Centreville, in the county of lVayne, and State of Indiana, have invented a Brick Drain-Tile; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making part of this speciiication, in which-"- Figure 1 represents a perspective View of my brick drain-tile Figure 2, a transverse section of two united, forniing a pipe or passage;
Figure 3, a plan or top view, showing the formation ofthe ends; and
Figure 4, a side view thereof.
Corresponding letters refer tocorresponding parts in the several figures. i
The nature of my invention consists in providing a brick having a semicircnlar groove in vone side, and concave and convex ends, which may be used in building brick Walls, for ventilating-purposes, or to form suitable passages in walls, in which to place gas and \vaterpipes, or which may be used as drain-tile -for draining land, guttering sidewalks, Sto.
To enable those skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its const-ruction and operation.
A, in the drawings, represents a blick of my construction, which may be made oifclay, as ordinary bricks, and of thesame size vas these, or any size which may be required.
In one side a semicircular groove, A', is to'be formed, and when it is to be used'for drain-tile, a series ot' small semicircular recesses, u, may be made in this side, as shownin figs-1 and 4, for the purpo'se of permitting the water to enter more'freely.
AThese bricks are to bemade with concave and convex ends,as shown iu fig. 3, which will hold them lirmly in place when laid; and, as the ends cannotwarp, they will always fit well here.
By reference to igs. 2 and 4, it will be seen that in laying the bricks, the sides having the grooves are to be brought together, thusibrming pipesthrough which water may be conducted, and aifordinga convenient means for Ventilating brickwalls, or of forming pas- Asages in them for gas and water-pipes.
fitnesses J. FQRKNER, J. B. JULIAN.
