HOLDFAST SPRING-CATCH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented 001. 26, 1on9.
Application'fited October 6, 1908. Serial No. 456,502.
To (111 21-7101 it may concern:
Be it known that l, Tuouas Mounts, a subject. of His Majesty the Kin; of Great; Britain, residing at Mornington. near Dunedin. in the British Dominion of Xew Zealand. have invented ertain llc\\' and useful Improvements in lloldfast Spring-Catches: and I do hereby declare the following to be a f clear. and exact description of the invention. such as will enable ()Iltt'l'.- skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in spring catches and more articular-1y to a spring catch for holding oops, chain links and the like hen used in such connections as harness structures. boat. painters, bag handles and for other obvlous purposes where the invention may be employed to advantage.
The structure contemplated in the present invention is of such nature that the bolt instantly releases the part held: c. 51.. a loop .or link, upon proper manipulation thereof 25 while at. the same time positively locking the said loop or link normally against displacement. D i
The invention bears a general resemblance to certain spring bolts designed fo" other purpo. es.-'lmt ditl'ers :Jherefrom in that the loop or link is instan ly released whereas in the utdinary-device. it is nt- -e.-.-ar v to wholly retract the bolt before the loopor link can be released.
For the purposes spccitied I make'a bolt 1 in the extended position of said bolt,
to slide in a case with a spring normally pressing said bolt against a specially 'formedQ )lock and said bolt and block are formed to retain the loop or link in a cavity formed between them, while release is achieved by withdrawing the said belt, which however is capable of being secured against. unauthorized tampering.
leferring to the. accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of the device and Fi 2 is an end view of same. Fig. 3 is a side. elevation of a slightly moditi d construction and Fig} is a plan of same. t
A is the bolt. formed as shown, and normally keptin the position in Fig. 1 by the .-pring t C is a knob and C is an alternative hook device for withdrawing the bolt A from the l-lock l), which if so formed thatthe loop may be snapped into the cavity fornied bctween said boltand said block and when so positioned is retained-as indicated. tage may be taken of the bolt-head to cheaply form part of the block l), as shown.
E is the casing formed with a slot for the parts t. or C to work in, and E is a hole defined by registering transverse grooves in the casing 1': and in the bolt A to insert. a padlock or such device to prevent the bolt A from being unlocked.
E is a covering plate secured by a bolt F at the end, of the casing A.
(3 is a loop or link as indicated.
The cavity under the point of bolt A would be formed to lit, the article to be held and might vary slightly for that, purpose;
It will be :t't'll that the inner or working side of block 1) is inclined to serve also as a cam whereby a link will slide away instantly on the withdrawal of bolt- A, without; any relaxation of tension-being needed.
111 this invention any materials or sizes found suitable may be adopted;
What I desire "to obtain Letters Patent of the United States 'of Ameri a for. is:'-.
1. In spring catches of the type set forth, in combination. a bolt casing.- a spring pressed bolt mounted t't ir axial sliding movement in said ca.-in; and having the under face of its outer end cut away to form a recess. and a stationary block arranged at the end' of said oi ing to close the said recess block having' an outwardly inclined working factdefining a wall of said recess and permitting of the ready displacement of the part held in naivement of said bolt.
2. ln s iring bolts of the type set forth. in combination. a bolt casing, a sprii'ig pressed bolt disposed in said casing for axial sliding movement. and a block for cooperation with said boltto hold a part to be locked, said bolt. and said casing having transverse :ition of the bolt and which serve to neccive jointly tberethrough a locking part.
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
