Improvements in N est-Traps, of which the following is a specification.

The object of this invention is to provide a simple and desirable form of nest trap for fowls.

The special aim of the invention is to devise a structure of this type which can be cleansed with facility, and which embodies certain advantageous features of construction that will appear more fully hereinafter.

For a full understanding of the invention, reference is to be had to the following detail description and to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a trap nest embodying the invention, the front projecting portions of the nest being shown in dotted ines Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section showing the parts of the nest arranged l in the positions in which they are located before the fowl is entrapped, dotted lines showing the position of the nest box after the same has been moved to release the fowl, and Fig. 3 is a transverse section.

Throughout the following detail description, and on the several figures of the drawings similar parts are referred to by like reference characters.

Specifically describing the invention, and referring particularly to the drawings, a nest trap constructed in accordance with the present invention comprises a body 1 which may be divided into separate compartments longitudinally thereof by means of a length wise partition 2 and the front and rear portions of the nest trap will be dividedinto compartments by means of transverse partitions 3. The longitudinal compartments of the" body 1 are shown at 4 and mounted for movement from the front end to the rear end of said compartment are nest boxes 5. The boxes 5 are separated by a guide strip 6 extending lengthwise of the body 1 and said boxes are prevented from displacement at the front of the body by means of stops 7. Arranged in each box 5 is a pivoted frame or false bottom 8 which is adapted to support the nest 9, said frame having pivotal connection at its inner end to hooks 10 on the rear side of the nest box 5. To the upper front end of each compartment 4 is pivoted a pendent door 11 which door is adapted to close the space between the upper portion of the nest box 5 and the top of the body 1. The lower free end of the door 11 is adapted ,to be engaged upon its outer side by upwardly projecting arms 11 which extend from the front portion of the frame or false bottom 8 before mentioned. At its rear end the frame or bottom 8 is also provided with a vertical extension thereof numbered 12' and this portion is adapted to coact with a catch 13 pivoted to the adjacent portion of one of the partitions 3. The upper end of each catch 13 extends forwardly and is bent rearwardly and is adapted to engage with the lower end of the door 11, when said door has been forced inwardly and upwardly into the position shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings. The arms 11 project outwardly from the body 1 when the boxes 5 are located at the front endsof the compartments 4 and in position in which the hen may readily enter the nest. An overhang or extension 1 of the top of the body 1 projects above said arms 11 and also forms a protection for the hen at the front of the nest trap.

Describing the general operation of the invention it may be noted that when the parts are arranged in the positions shown in Fig. 2, the hen may readily enter the nest box 5 of either compartment 4. The door 11 will be supported in the position shown in Fig. by means of the catch 13 but after the hen enters the nest box 5 her weight on the false bottom or frame 8 is sufficient to move the front end of said frame downwardly a slight distance and this slightly tilts the rear extension 12 of said frame and disengages the catch 13 from the door 11 permitting said door to move into closed position as shown in Fig. 1. The hen is thus trapped and she can only be released when a person grasping the nest box 5 pulls the latter rearwardly into the rear portion of the compartment 4 in which she is arranged and in the rear of the partition 3. This movement of the nest box 5 causes the arms 11 to engage the front portion of the door 11 and moves said door upwardly and rearwardly into engagement with the catch 13 in which position the door is held until the nest box 5 is forced into its front position and another hen enters the nest and operates the door in the manner be fore described. When the box 5 is pulled rearwardly the hen is of course released from the nest.

It Will be observed that I contemplate making the nest boxes 5 Without solid bottoms so that they can be readily removed and subjected to a flame in order to thoroughly cleanse the same and destroy vermin of all. kinds. In like mannerthefalse bottom 8 and its parts which are of skeleton construction may be removed and cleaned thoroughly. Furthermore, when it is not desired to use the trap parts of the invention it will be apparent that the same may be readily detached and the nest boxes 5 em ployed alone in the customary way.

The invention possesses many desirable features of construction and is especially ad vantageous under actual conditions of service in view of the operation of its parts as before set forth.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

1. In a nest trap, the combination of a body comprising a nest compartment, a nest box movable in said compartment, a door pendent from the top of the compartment and arranged to close the entrance end there of, a movably mounted bottom for the nest box adapted to support a nest and embodying an extension, a catch arranged in the compartment to hold the door normally in an open position and adapted to be engaged by the extension aforesaid when weight is received upon the false bottom so as to release the door, and means for setting the door in an inoperative position when the nest box is moved so as to release the hen therefrom.

2. In a nest trap, the combination of a body including a compartn'ient for the nest, a nest box in said compartment and movable from the front end to the rear end, a door adapted to close the front end of the compartment, a nest supporting member in. the nest box, a catch arranged to hold the door in open position and operable by the member in the nest, in order to release the door when weight is received on said member, and means carried by the nest box for setting the door in open position after the box has been pulled toward the rear end of the compartment to release the hen.

3. In a nest trap, the combination of a r body including a compartment, a nest box arranged in said compartment and movable from its front end to its rear end to release a hen, a door for closing the front end of the compartment and pivoted from the top of the body, a nest supporting member arranged in the nest box and pivotally mounted, a catch for holding the door open and operable by movement of the nest supporting member aforesaid, and arms projecting from the nest supporting member to force the door into its open position after the nest box has been pulled to the rear end of the compartment in which it is arranged.
