CLEANING-MACHINE FOR SPOONS, FORKS, &c.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 1, 1909.
Application filed June 5, 1908. Serial No. 436,812.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JoHANNEs LODEWI- KUS SANDERS, machine manufacturer, citizen of Netherlands, subject of the Queen of the Netherlands, residing at Gronausche straat 1, Enschede, in the Kingdom of Netherlands, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cleaning-Machines for Spoons Forks, and the Like, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention relates to improvements in machines or apparatuses for cleaning, dusting, brushing and polishing spoons, forks and similararticles of the household and of general use; but more especially for spoons.
The characteristic feature of my invention consists therein that the cleaning, dusting, brushing and polishing of the spoon or of similar articles is carried on by means of cleaning brushes adapted in their exterior form or shape to the special form orshape of the article to be treated, cleaned, polished and the like; and arranged in such way, as to simultaneously actionate two pairs of brushes arranged on two superposed wheels. From these two superposed couples of rotating brushes the one pair is the washer or cleaning brush and treats by means of water, soap and polishing material the object to be cleaned in a wet state, while by means of the second brush the objects are dried and the high polish is produced.
The essential part of my invention consists therein that the brushes arranged on one wheel may slide or travel on same and are adjustable with regards their relative position to each other, so as to attain that one upper and one lower brush cooperate or catch with each other in order to attain a handling of the objects to be treated in subsequent operations in wet and dry state.
In the annexed drawing: Figure 1 represents a front view of my machine, Fig. 2 a top View, Fig. 3 a side View of same, partly in section.
On the wooden ground plate of the machine Which is composed of two parts a and b, there are arranged the bearing pedestals c c on both sides of the machine and connected with each other by means of connecting bars d. The supports or supporting pedestals c a carry the bearings in which the shafts f and g carrying the brushes, by means of ins, are eccentrically arranged. Both sha ts f and g carry a pair or a plurality of brushes h and i, the same being cylindrical or of any other suitable form. The actual working surface of these brushes being formed in such way as to have a brush h of convex working surface to correspond with the other, (for instance the superposed one) of concave working surface.
The brushes i by means of pointed screws are firmly attached to the wheel g, at certain distances from each other, while the brushes 7t fixed to each other by suitable means, for instance spanrings 7c may slide or travel on the shaft f. By the arrangement of pins m fixed to the shaft f and catching with slits n, the rotation of the brushes with their corresponding Wheel is attained. Instead of pins m and slits it any other suitable arrangement can be provided for attaining the rotation of brushes on their shafts f. i. by shaping the shaft f fully or partly as a square bar and the like.
A forkpiece 0 carried by the bar 61 and being fixed to the bar 9 provided with a handle p, surrounds the ring it with its gutter. The same are actionated by this bar 9, in such way as to cause the brushes h to slide, for the purpose of enabling them to catch with the corresponding brushes 2'. Each of the shafts f and g carries a friction disk or friction ratchet 1", both disks being commonly driven by means of a large driving Wheel or friction disk 8, so as to rotate the upper and lower brushes in opposite directions. The driving wheel or frictional disk 8 is by means of the bolt t arranged in the floorstand a and is provided with a handle.
By operating this machine by hand one person may first submit the spoons, forks and the like previously treated by water, soap and suitable polishing or cleaning material to the action of the first pair of brushes. Then by means of tongs g, the upper brushes may be adjusted, so as to make them catch with the second pair for the purpose of drying the spoons and the like and to make them ready for use.
What I claim is:
1. A. machine for cleaning and polishing spoons, forks and the like, having a plurality of brushes arranged one above the other on different shafts, the brushes on the one shaft being firmly attached to the same, while those of the other shaft are adapted to slide on same.
2. A machine for cleaning and polishing spoons, forks and the like comprising two i shafts, one arranged above the other, With brushes mounted thereon, one set of brushes being adapted to be shifted on its shaft and the other brushes arranged at such distance from each other that one upper and one lower brush will catch with each other for the purpose of successively Washing and drying the objects to be cleaned.
In witness whereof, I subscribe my sign ature, in presence of two Witnesses.
JOHANNES LODEWIKUS SANDERS. Witnesses:
