Letters Patent No. 92,336, dated July 6, 1869.

IMPROVEMENT IN R'ULING-PENS.

The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.

To all whom it may concern.:

Be it known that I, ROBERT MCVEEN, of Cleve will rule tine continuous lilies, without skipping. It

will also do to write with, if desired.

In the drawings- A represents a tube, which may be made of silver or other suitable metal, the lower end or pen-portion owhich is flat-tened, as represented at a. The end,

instead of being square, is slanted O at an angle, and where the pen rides on the paper, there is a line slit which permits the ink to ow.

" B represents a handle, of wood or other suitr e material, which lits into the tube A, and which il', y

be withdrawn Whenever it is necessary to fill the tube with'ink. v

In the end of the handle is placed a small blade, which may be used to open 01 free the slit it required.

Should the slit be too open, it is only necessary to pinch the tube together with the thumb and iinger, to close it.

The pen may be constructed so as to havctwo or more slits, by having partitions in the end of the pen, making separate points. This is designed for use when it is desired to rule double lines or more.

This pen will be found to be very convenient for boolekeepers and clerks i-n the comming-room, as it does not get dry, the ink being confined, and unexposed Within the tube A. It also iiows freely, making a clean, sharp line, without fail.

What I desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
