a citizen of the United States, residing at i Daingerfield, in the county of Morris and jlo figuration. At the opposite end of the basket -State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Cloth-Bolt Holder, of:which the fol-v lowing is a specification.

This invention has relation to cloth bolt holders, and it consists in the novel construotion and arrangement of its parts, as hereinaftershown and described.

The objector the invention is to provide a holder of the character indicated which is adapted to be attached to a counter, or other convenient support, and which is adapted to hold a boltof cloth in such manner that the cloth maybe readily paidout from the bolt or rewound u on the same, as desired.

With the a ove obj set in view the holder is constructed in the form of a unitary fixture," having a basket or containing portion serving as a receptacle for the bolt, and above which is imposed a roller, over which the cloth may be passed as it is unwound from the bolt. c M

The figure in the accompanying drawing is a perspective view of the bolt-holder, showing the same in position upon the top of a counter.

The holder consists of a series of parallel spaced'ribs, 1, which are joined at one end with across rod 2. At their opposite ends the said ribs join with a cross-bar 3, and in the vicinity of the end portions of the ribs which joinwith the said cross-bar 3, they (the said ribs) are provided with concaved curves 4. By such an arrangement it will be seen that a substantially cylindrical openwork basket is formed by the ribs and the connecting bars, and that sufiicient space is provided through which material contained Within the basket shaped, body may be viewed. The outer end of the basket formed by the ribs as set forth is closed by a disk 5, which is approximately pear-shaped in conformed as stated islo'cated a segment 6, which, atone end, joins with the cross-rod 2, and at'its other end "portion joins with the cross-rod 3. tween the projecting end of the segment 6 and the lobe portion of the disk 5 is journaled a roller 7, which is spaced approximately equidistant from the cross rods 2 and 3.

The segment 6 is provided at its lower side With downwardly extending lugs 8 which are adapted to be secured to the edge of the top of the counter as indicated, and the rib 4 at the opposite end of the basket is provided with downwardly extending lugs 9, which are also adapted to be secured to the edge of the counter, but the ed e thereof opposite to that edge to which thedugs 8 are attached.

Any suitable form of securing devices may be employed for attaching the said lugs to the counter. Thus it will be seen that a basket is formed which is open at one end and closed at the opposite end, and at its top portion is provided with spaces at each side of the roller 7, and between the cross rods 2 and 3. The basket, as so formed, is adapted to contain a bolt of cloth in a manner similar to that as indicated in dotted lines in the figure of the drawing, and when the bolt is so positioned, the end of the cloth may be passed through the space at either side of the roller 7 and then over the roller and carried out along the top of the counter, where it may be examined and measured.

By reason of the fact that space is provided at each of the sides of the roller 7, it is apparent that the cloth may be passed through either of the said spaces and then over the top of the roller, and may be paid out at either side of the holder, as desired.

Vhen it is desired to rewind the cloth upon the body of the bolt it is not necessary to remove the bolt from the holder, for one behind the counter may rotate the bolt within the basket formed as stated, and such turning of the bolt will rewind the cloth back over the roller and upon the body of the bolt. It will also be seen that as one end of the basket is closed, the bolt cannot be projected beyond that end of the basket, and the disk which forms the closure for the end of the basket serves as a means for protecting the end of the bolt. It will also be seen that while the segment 6 is of circular configuration, it does not describe a complete circle, and therefore sufficient space is aiiorded for the insertion of the bolt, edgewise, through the space be tween the ends of the segment; and the said space also affords room whereby an operator may insert his arm in the basket for the purpose of removing the bolt therefrom, or for inserting the bolt therein.

Having described the invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure, by Letters Patent, is

1. A holder comprising a series of spaced ribs, a cross-rod connecting the ends of the ribs together at one side of the holder, a cross rod connecting the ends of the ribs together at the opposite side of the holder, a closure located at one end of the holder, a segment member located at the opposite end of the holder and connected with the said cross-rods, and a roller journaled between the said segment and the closure and spaced from the said cross-rods.

2. A holder comprising a series of curved ribs spaced from each other, a cross-rod located at one side of the holder and connecting the ends of the ribs at that side of the holder together, a cross-rod located at the opposite side of the holder and connecting the ends of the ribs at that side of the holder together, a pear-shaped closure located at the end of the holder and having its lobe proj ecting above the cross-rods, a segmentshaped member at the opposite end of the holder and connected with the ends of the cross-rods and having a portion projecting toward the center of the holder beyond one of the cross-rods, a roller journaled between the projecting end of said member and the projecting lobe of the closure and spaced from the cross-rods.

3. A holder comprising a series of curved spaced ribs, a cross-rod at one side of the holder connecting the ends of the said ribs together, a cross-rod at the opposite side of the holder, connecting the opposite ends of the ribs together, said ribs having concaved curves in the vicinity of the last said crossrod, a closure at one end of the holder, an interrupted circular member at the opposite end of the holder and connected with the cross-rods, and a roller journaled between one end of the said interrupted member and the said closure.
