Description

J. F. DE NAVARRO, OF NEW YORK. N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO EMERY ROTARY `MACHINE COMPANY, OF vSAME PLACE.
Letters Patent No. 92,287, dated July 6, 17869.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and makixig part ofthe same To all whom fit may concern Be it known that I, J. EDE NAVARRO, of thecity, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Measuring-Faucets, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part ofthis specification, andin which- 'Figure 1 represents-a plan of a uxeasnringdaucet,
constructed in accordance with my improvement;
Figure 2, a longitudinal vertical section of the same; and
Figure 3, an inverted plan of the gear by which motion is communicated to the indicator. l
Similar lletters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
This limprovement relates to faucets having an indicator-attaehment for measuring, in fixed or variable quantities, the liquor as it is drawn from the cask or vessel; and
The invention consists in a novel and simple combination of' mechanism with the revolving draught and expelling-devices ofthe faucet, or means by which the same are operated, for measuring oif the liquor and indicating the quantity drawn.
Referring to the accompanying drawing- A represents the measuring-cylinder or chamber of the faucet, fitted with suitable revolving devices for drawing off the liquor through the spigot B, and discharging it through the nozzle C.
Said draughtdevices are rotated by means of a crank, D, on a main'shaft, E, which passes through a stuiing-box or gland,`F, on the one side .or face ofthe measuring-chamber.
Fitted to rotate freely around this stuiing-box or gland, as a bearing or centre,-is an endless screw, G, formed of a disk, having a screwthread ont around its edge.
This endless screw is connected with the crank I), through a pin or arm, H, by which means said screw G is rotated with the shaft E, though independent of the latter, by its arrangement around the stufng-box or projection from the face of the measuring-chamber, which enables me to use a large diameter of screw, without exposing it to objectionable protrusion, as the same is made to lie close up against the face of the measuring-cylinder or chamber.
This screw G is made to gear with a'crown-wlieel, I, having its teeth arranged worm-fashion, and turning on an arbor, J, screwed into the'top ot' the meas. ming-chamber.
Said crown or worm-wheel carries a dial, K, graduated to indicate any desired quantities-and which operates in connection with an index, M, that is preferably so tinted on to the arbor J, as-that it may be set or turned from one fixed positionto another over therevolving dial, for the purpose of facilitating the meastiring oiil ofthe liquor, by reversing or setting the index to any desired starting-point or graduation of quantity on the dial; but, whenset, said indexremains stationary, and the dial only is made to revolve by the operation of the faucet, till the gradnationjon said dial, indicating the quantity to be measured, comes in line with or under the index.
The arrangement ofthe endless screw G in proximity to the face of the measuring-cylinder A, and so that it rotates with the main shaft E around an axis common to both, and is in direct gear, as it were, through the worm-wheel I, wit-h the dial, dispenses with much objectionable mechanism, and forms a -most simple and eicient combination for the purpose required'. y Y
-What isrhere claimed, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is l t The arrangement, in relation toa measuring-faucet, and its revolving operating-shatt E, of the screw'G, the worm-wheel I, and revolving dial K, with ,itsv index M, substantially as shown and described.
. J. F. DE NAVARRO.
