DARNING OUTFIT.
APPLICATION FILED JAN. 2, 1909.

reduction to SARA SHELLEY NEELY, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
immune ou'rrrr.
, Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed January a, 1000. Serial No. 470,504.
Patented May 4, 1009.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SARA SHELLEY NEELY, a citizen of the United States, residin at Baltimore, in the county of Baltimore %ity and State of Maryland, have invented a new and useful Darning Outfit; and I do hereby declare the followin to be a full, clear, and exact description 0 the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it a pertains to make and use the same.
T fus invention relates to darning outfits, and particularly to a new and useful device for mending socks, stockings or the like, and in which the material and paraphernalia used in mending such articles are contained, for instance, an eme bag, darning cotton, thread, a pair of scissors, thimble, and a device used m 'mendin gloves and other similar articles, in which glove mender needles are carried. -The device for mending gloves is supported in the contracted portion of the device on which socks or stockings are mended, as clearly shown in the drawings.
This invention com rises further ob'ects and combinations of e ements, which w' be hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and the novel features thereof will be pointed out by the ap ended claims.
he features, elements and the arrangement thereof, which constitute the above entitled invention, may be changed and varied, that is to say, in an actual reduction to practice, with the understandin that the changes and variations accruing rom said ractice are limited to the scope of the appenged claims.
To obtain a full and correct understanding of the .details of construction, combinations of features, elements and advantages, reference is to be had to the hereinafter set forth description and the accom anying drawings in connection therewith, w herein- Figure 1 is a sectional view longitudinally through the device for mending socks or 'stockin s or similar articles, showing the materia and paraphernalia used in darnin Fig. 2 is an elevation of the device for men ing socks or stockings. Fig. 3 is an elevation of the device for mending gloves and similar articles.
In regard to the drawings, wherein similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts in the several illustrations, 1 desi nates the device on which stockings or soc s are proximately the shape of the butt of an egg, as is the lower smaller portion. The por tion designated by the numeral 2 is pseudospherical sha e, as shown clearly in Figs. 1 and 2, an the said device 1 comprises three sections, the larger section 3 and the smaller section 4, between which is the intermediate or third member 5. The intermediate or third member 5 is provided with a reduced threaded ortion 6 at each end thereof, with which t e threads 7 upon the inner portions of the sectionsB and 4 engage, as disclosed in Fig. 1. The intermediate sectionis provided with an opening 8 extending entirely therethrou h, which opening is enlar ed at either on thereof, as shown at 9, an in which opening the device 10 used in darning gloves or other similar articles is positione the lower end of which is received in the thimble 11, that is to sa when these devices are not being used. he sections 3 and 4 are provided with approximately spherical shaped hollow portions 12 and 13, which are in registration with the enlarged portions 9 of the opening 8, as shown clearly in Fig. 1.
As'shown clearly in Fig. 1, itwill be seen that the device for mending socks or stockings contains also spools of thread 14, an emery bag 15, a pair of scissors 16, and darning cotton 17.
The device on which gloves or other similar articles are mended is provided with a hollowed out portion 18, the mouth of which is covered by the closure 19, which forms a member which is inserted into the fingers of a glove, as is evident.
The lower portion of the device 10 is slightly enlarged, so as to form a member 20 similar to the member 19, and designed for the same purpose; the member 20 is slightly smaller than the member 19, the urpose of which is for the insertion into tie smaller fingers of gloves. The hollowed out portion 18 contains a plurality of needles '21, as shown;
The portion 22 of the device 10 is provided with acthreaded restricted portion 23, with which the threads 24 of the closure or member'19 engage, as shown.
From the foregoing, the essential features, elements and the operation of the device, together with the simplicity thereof, will be clearly apparent.
darned, the upper portion of which is ap- Havin thus fully described the invention, what is c aimed as new and useful 1s:-
1. In a darnin outfit, a seek or stocking -darner designed or containing darnlng ma-- terial or paraphernalia comprisim three sections, an intermediate section having an, opening enlarged at either end and extending entirely therethrough and provided with restricted threaded portions, two end sections or closures having hollow portions threaded to the intermediate section, and a glove mending or darning device carried within said 0 )ening. I
.2. n a darning outfit, the combination of a sock or stocking darner and a glove mending or darning device, said sock or stocking darner being enlarged at either end and rovided with a restricted portion, said stoc ing" or sock darner comprising threesections, an
intermediate section having an opening extending entirely therethrough and enlarged at either end, two end sections or closures for the intermediate section, said 0 ening of the intermediate section designed or receiving the glove mending or darnin device, said glove mending or darning devlce comprising two sections, a hollow section and anend section or closure for the hollow section threaded thereto, said hollow section designed for receiving needles. 7
Intestimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in'the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
SARA SHELLEY NEEIJY.
