Description

A. SIMMS & s. 0. 000K.
NUT LOOK.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 11, 1909.
929,031. Patented July 27, 1909.
A v W ALEXANDER SIMMS AND SAMUEL 0. 000K, OF WASHINGTON, PENNSYLVANIA.
NUT-LOCK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed. May 11, 1909.
Patented July 27, 1909.
Serial No. 495,230.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ALEXANDER SIMMs and SAMUEL O. 000K, both of Washington, in the county of Washington and the State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Nut-Locks and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of our invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
Our invention relates to nut locks and particularly to a lock which can be stamped out of sheet metal and consists in certain novel features and details of construction as will be more fully described hereinafter and finally pointed out in the claim.
We will now describe our invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts and in which Figure 1, is a plan view of our'improved lock showing the parts in the position ready for use. Fig. 2, is an edge view, showing the parts turned up; the dotted lines showing the parts flat. Fig. 3, is a plan view of a nut and bolt, showing our improved look attached thereto and in the locked position.
A, represents the main body of the lock which is stamped out in practically the contour shown, which leaves a tongue B, and two openings O, and D, and also a projection E, having a recess F, in the outer end thereof. The tongue B, is adapted to be bent up straight which permits the lock proper to be placed over the end of a bolt, which bolt is provided with a slot or groove G, in one side of the threaded portion thereof, the tongue B, resting in said groove. A
nut H, is then screwed down to its place. The projection E, is then bent up past the side of the nut and over the top edge thereof. The projecting end of the tongue B, is then bent down over the top of the nut and the recess F, engages said tongue as shown in Fig. 3. The opposite end of the lock having the opening D, may then be bent over the opposite side of the nut forming a double look, absolutely preventing the nut H, from turning independent of the bolt by reason of the opening D, engaging the side of the nut. Either end of the lock may be left flat and the nut can be locked by the tongue B, and one or the other ends of the lock proper.
Having described our invention, what we claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A nut lock stamped from a single piece of metal leaving two openings O, and D, and a tongue B, and projection E, having a recess F, in the outer end thereof, said proj ection and part having the opening D being adapted to be bent upward for engaging the sides of the nut and the tongue being adapted to enter a recess in the side of the bolt and the protruding part engaging the recess in the end of the projection, all substantially as and for the purposes shown and described.
In testimony whereof, we have hereunto set our hands in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ALEXANDER SIMMS. SAMUEL O. COOK.
Witnesses:
