A. WIEN. BASKET GRAT E FOR DRYING PURPOSES.
APPLICATION FILED MAR. 20, 1907. 927,699. I Patented July 13, 1909.
fig-.2 C U v I 5i ADOLIH WIEN, OF PRAGUE, AUSTRIA-llU-NGARY.
BASICET-GRATE FOR DRYING PURPOSES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 13, 1909.
Application filed March 20, 1907. Serial No. 363,365.
To all 11:]; om. i't ma 1 concern:
Be it known that I. Anonrn 'IEX, subject of Austria-l'lungary. residing at Prague, Kingdom of Bohemia. Empire of'Austriallunga'ry. have invented newand useful linprovements in Basket-(hatesfor Drying lurposes,,of which the following is a speeitlttltltll].
This invention relates to imprmements in basket grates for drying or heating purposes.
'lhe objert ot' the invention is to produee a grate which will have increased etlicienev and whieh may be used for drying damp rooms and particularly the eorners thereol.
These and further objects will appear from the following specification and tlttOlllpanying drawings, considered together or separately:
In thedrawings. Figure 1 is a cross seetional view taken on the line I/'I/ of Fig. 2 of a basketgrate embodying my invention: amt Fig. '3 is a set-tional plan view of the same taken on the line .u.r of Fig. 1.
In both views like parts are designated y the same reterenee rharaeters.
In t-arryitig out my invention 1 provide a basket grate r/ of the t-nstomary type. the said basket grate having an imperl'orated rover o. the said eowr tapering upward. l pon the top of the (t|\'tl' is a tlat box 4/. In the (enter ol' this box is a pipe 1- \\'lllt'll projerts slightly abow the bottom ol' the box and passes throt gh the grate. Fre h air is iutrodut-ed through this pipe. ln the top ut the box 1/. a plurality of apertures are provided. arranged pretti'ubly on both sides of the mouth of the pipe 1-. These apertures are provided with pipe sorkets \\'lllt'll are adapted to engage with pipes /1. Suitable rovers are provided tor the purpose of (losing these apertures when de ired. The apertures 1 are situated above t-orresponding apertures formed in the bottom ot the box The gases of combustion and the hot air thus will [low through the apertures 1/ into the box 1/ and trout them-e into the pipes /t.
In tltt'til'tlillltt with the strtu'ture tll' 'tl'll)t'tl there results. by using the box several t'lll'- rent of hot air whit-h may be utilized aet-ordiug to requirements. .\s an example. at the beginning ot the drying operation. the (Iill'tllt of hot air only tnay be allowed to est-ape through the pipe 1;, surh pipe r beiug in line'with the pipe amt the mouths of the pipe sot'kets may be closed by their covers Z. 'hen the drying has proceeded further, one or more of the lateral pipe sockets f are open d aet-ording 'to requirements by taking otl' the rovers: by plating the pipes it on the sockets f. these pipes may be led to the corners of the room. \\'lllt'll. of
"1'. in whit-h will lie pipesot' tubes 'through these pipes fresh air from the outside may be conveyed in the saute manner in \\'l]ltll it is tt)ll\'( \'t'tl to the pipe 1'. 'lhe air heated in the pipes may be utilized tor t'urther drying the room.
In at't'ordant'e with the provisions ot the patent statutes. 1 have de eribed the principle of my invention. together with the apparatus \\'l)ltll 1 now consider to represent the best embodiment thereof. but I desire to have it.- understood that the apparatus shown is merely illustrative amt that the invention t-an he rarried out in other ways.
Having now deseribed my invention. what I t-laim as new and desire to seture by laptters latent. is:
l. basket grate having a box on the top thereot apertures t-onuet-tiug the grate and the box. a ventral pipe passing through .the grate and ent ring the box. and apertures in the top of the box.
2. basket grate having a box at the top. a ventral pipe passing through the grate amt rommunieating with the box. an aperture in the top of the box above the end of this pipe. other apertures at the top ol the box, apertures in the bottom of the box, oommunit-ating with the grate. and in line with the apertures in the top. thetop'apertures having pipe sot-kets. with means for elosing tho same.
it. basket grate having lateral eontraes tions or grooves in the side. in eombidation with air pipes lying within the grooves.
In testimony whereot l have signed my name to this spet-itiration in the presence of two subst'ribing witnesses.
