1 '0 all 20720111 1' i may concern:
lie it known that 1. liinxnnn Mel. SAX- mcns. citizen of the United States. residing at Nashville. in the county of Davidson and from slipping.
1n the t'tiillowing description. reference is made to the accompanying drawing. forming a part of this specification. and illustrating my invention. and in which.
Figure l is a side elevation of a needle construct-zedin accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is an end elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is a sectional elevation of one end thereof. taken on the section line 33 of Fig. 1. and looking in the direction of the arrows. and. Fig. l is a perspective view of the same illustrating the manner of threading for practical purposes.
shown in the accompanying drawing. the needle A comprises the usual tapered and pointed body which may be either curved as shown. or straight. and which provided with a slightly flattened squared blunt or base end in accord: we with my invention. l provide the needle with a pair of paced apertures t3 and 7. extending transversely through the squared end and the adjacent ends oi which are connected by a longitudinal ove. 2%. formed within one of the flattened .1 aces ot. said squared portion. (-ipposite. ends of the. apertures ('3 and 7 .11: also con- Specification of Letters Patent.

nected by a slightly curved angular groove 9. through another one of the flattened surfaces of the squared end 5. which latter groove 9 merges. at one end thercot. into the longitudinal straight groove 8. Thus. to thread the needle as shown in Fig. l. the end of the thread is passed through the aperture 7. from the end thereof opposite the groove b, through groove 8. aperture t3. and rear- \vardly through the groove 5 the extremity being passed beneath the portion of thread lying within groove 8. thus forming a halthitch which becomes lirmer with every pull upon the length of thread.
Having fully described my invention. I claim:
'1. A needle. having a plurality of threading eyes extending transversely therethiough. and provided with a longitudinal peripheral groove connecting said eyes upon one side of said needle. said needle being further provided with a helical peri )heral groove connecting said eye upon oppositely disposed sides of said needle. said helical peripheral groove merging at one end into one end of said longitudinal groove. substantially as described.
2. In a needle. having a plurality of threading eyes extending transversely therethroughfand provided with a longitudinal peripheral groove connecting said eyes upon one side of said needle. said needle being further provided with a curved peripheral groove connecting said eyes upon oppositely llr pOi 'td sides of said needle. said curved peripheral groove merging into said longitudinal groove. substantially a described.
In testimony whereof I ailix my signature in presence of two witne ses.
