Be it known that I, Ismon Krrsnn, citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful. Improvements in Proc esses of Extracting Precious .Ietals from Ores, of which the following is a specificz tion.
My invention relates to an improvement in the process extracting precious metals from ores and has more special reference to the extracting of gold from the natural deposit.
The process of extracting gold from its ores'by means of a solution of cyanid of an alkali, or alkaline earth. is now most generally practiced and it the aim of my inven- .0 e 1 es in )re ex )er ious tron t lend 1 the i o( s 1 id l have made experiments with different i compounds and found that the compound known as the nitrate of sodium is well adapted for the purpose and has the advantage ot being; readily attainable. I prefer this compound also on account of its cheapness, as I found that the same may be used in its crude or impure state.
The apparatus in which the compound, such as a nitrate of sodium, or potassium is clectrolyzcd, should consist of two compart ments; one for the cathode and one for the anode.
i do not intend to use the contents of the positive compartment of such an apparatus, as the solvent pcr scbut I intend to use the same for the purpose of hastening the solvent action of the cyanid.
Having now described my invention, what i claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. The process of extracting precious metals from their ores, which consists in subjecting the ores to the dissolving action of a cyanid in the presence of the anolyte of an electric apparatus in which a nitrogen compound has [wen electrolyzed the anolyte containing an oxid of nitrogen.
The process of extracting gold from its ores consisting in subjecting the ores to the dissolving; action of a cyanid in the presence of an anolyte carrying an oxid of nitrogen.
