. tops, and more particularly to an armored WALLACE BARRETT LIBBY,
OF VANDALIA, MISSOURI.
WELL on GISTERN TOP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 16, 196th.
Application filed December 14, 1905. Serial No; 291,800.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, \NALLAOEB. LIBBY, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Van dalia, in the county of Audrain and State of 1 Missouri, have invented certain new andfuseful Improvements in Well or Cistern Tops, of which the following is a specification.
"This invention relates to well or cistern cement orconcrete well .or cistern top.
The object of my invention is to provide an armored concrete or cement top for wells and cisterns, and to construct the same in such a manner that it will be perfectly sanitary, easily andquickly set in place, also durable and convenient in use.
A further object of my invention is to provide a top or cover of the character above described and to construct the same in such a manner that easy access may be had to a well or cistern equipped with the same.
In brief my invention consists in the particular construction of the various parts, and in the novel manner of combination and arrangement of said parts, all of which will be hereinafter more fully described and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In the" drawings forming a part of this specification: Fi e 1, is a top plan view, Fig. 2, is a view in side elevation, Fig. 3, is atop plan view with the disk removed, and part y in section, Fig. 4, is a top plan view of the disk, Fig. 5, is a side elevation of the, disk, and Fig. 6, is a erspective view of the sleeve to be used in p ace of the disk.
Referring by numerals to the drawings, 1 represents the major portion of the top or cover consisting of a round plate having a central aperture 8, rovidedwith a shoulder '7, the object of whic will hereinafter appear.- This plate is further rovided with a small aperture 2, to be-used as a vent, or for the reception of a down spout, as ay be desired. .Located in-the wall ofthis plate is a series of circular steeliods 6, preferably near the bottom surface which lend strength and rigidity to the structure.
A portionof these rods are intercepted by the aperture 2, and atsuch interception they are connected together so 3, having a flange 4, and provided wit v opening 4*, for the reception of a pump, and
further with a series of lead plugs 5, by means pump may be secured in posiof which the tion. I.
In Fig. 6, I have shown a modified form of my invention consisting of a sleeve 10, having axfiange 11, adapted to fit snugly in the aperture 8, and to rest upon the shoulder-7. This sleeve may be of any'desired length and is provided in its upper ring with lead plugs 12, to which a to may be secured. This construction is to in places where a pump is not desired.'
Having thus described the various features of my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A well or cistern top comprising a plate having central thereof a large circular opening rovided with an offset, and a small opening ocated between said central opening and the outer side of the cover, said plate having embedded therein a series of reinforcing bands all located in the same plane between said central opening and the outer edge of the late, certain of said bands being intercepted by said smaller 0 ening the plate, and said intercepted ban s being connected together at the sides of said opening to strengthen the structure around said opening; I and a plug adapted to fit in'said central opening and to rest uponthe offset therein, said plug having central thereof an opening and means surrounding the opening for securing a pump to the plug.
. In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
