Description

N,PETERS, PNGTO LTHDGRAPMR WASHINGTON D C luted tant @met @twine F. FISCHBECK, or cHICAGoILLLrNoIs.
Letters Patent No. 91,107, dated .Tune 8, 1869.
`IMPROVMENT IN TRAVELLING--BAG FRAMES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same. Y
` reference being had to the accompanyingdrawing,
making part of this specification, and to the letters .of reference marked thereon, like letters indicating like parts wherever they occur.
To enable others skilled in the art to construct and use my invention, I will proceed to describe it.
My invention-relates to travelling-bag frames; and consists in constructing and hinging the jaws in a novel manner, in connection or combination with metallic protectors.
otsnitable length and width, and bend it transversely,
so as to form the rim A of theouter jaw of my frame, as clearly'shown in fig. 1.
To the ends of this rim AI connect, firmly, L- shaped metallic protectors B, provided, cntheir outer under side, with a boss or round projection, a, and also connect the protectors B, iu like manner, to a metallic cross-strip, C, and in this way make a complete rigid metallic circuit for my frame.
Within the rim A, and so as to be on line, or
-nearly so, with its outer edge, and at right angles with it, I place a metallic strip, D, suitably bent for the purpose, and connect it to the rim by means of small plates b, and so as to leave a narrow intervening space between.
The ends of the strip D, I bend at right angles to its length, so that the bent portion may be near to and parallel'with' the upper side of the protector B, and the length oi' the bont portion equal to the width of the protector, clearly shown in iig. 2; and to these ends hinge the metallic strip E, made similar in size and shape to the strip l), and forming the inner jaw oi' the frame, the rini A and strip D forming the outer jaw. v
Instead of bending the lower ends of' the strip D, and hinging the jaw E to it, as shown in one side of iig. 1, and in lig. 2, thc protectorB may be provided with a but, c, and have the leafrl hinged to it, and then have the loose end of the leaf attached or riveted to the jaw E, as clearly shown on one side of' iig., l, and also in iig. 25.
The frame nray'be constructed with hinges like the one shown in tig. 2, or like the one shown in fig. 3, or with one ol' each kind, as shown in lfig. 1.
It will be seen that a frame constructed in this Way has a strong metallic rim, inside of which the lock can be fastened; has metallic protectorsnt the corners, serving to protect the hinges, and, if desired, forming a part of them, also protecting the bottom of the frame, and serving to connect the cross-strip C, to which tbe'bag can besecured, thus forming a cheap, strong, nsefnl, and durable frame.
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim, is-
l. A travelling-bagframe, having the rim A ofthe outer jaw, the protectors B, and the cross-strip E, constructed and arranged substantially as hereinl described, and for the purpose set forth.
2. Hinging the inner jaw E to the ends of the strip D, bent as herein shown and described, or to the protectors B, substantially as set forth. A
y i F. FISCHBECK.
