To all whom it may concern:

Be itknown that 1, Joan D. MARTIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Reynolds Station, in the county of Ohio, State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ditchers and Road-Graders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The invention relates to a grader and more particularly to the class of ditchers and road scraping machines.

" The primary object of the invention is the provision of a ditcher and road scraping upon the ground and aid the machine in its forward movement, the said ground roller also serving to position the scraper blade with respect to the ground as the machine is advanced over the same.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a ditcher and road scraping machine which is thoroughly efficient in operation, simple in construction, durable and inexpensive in the manufacture and that may throw the dirt to one side regardless of the direction of travel of the machine.

With these and otherobjects in view the invention for example consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that changes, variations, modifications and minor details may be made such as come properly within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof.

In the drawings; Figure 1 is a side elevation'of the invention. Fig 2 is a top plan view thereof. Fig. 3 is a rear view. Fig. '4 is a sectional view on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a front end view. Fig. 6 is a sectional view on the line 66 of Fig. 2.

Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawings.

Referring now more particularly to the ac companying drawings the ditcher and road scraping machine comprises a runner designated by the numeral 7 and'having near its lower ground engaging edge and projecting from its inner face spaced studs 8 forming axles upon which are rotatably mounted disk wheels 9 the latter adapted to engage and cut into the ground upon the forward travel of the machine to prevent lateral displacement of the runner and to also aid the forward movement thereof.

Projecting from the inner face of tho runnor 7 near the forward end thereof are staple members 10 passing through openings 11 contained in a scraper plate or blade 12 to form a hinge connection therefor. tudinal edge of the plate or blade 12 is curved outwardly at as 13 to form a cutting or scraping edge 14 and the upper longitudinal edge of the scraper blade or late has rabbeted thereon an angle bar 15 t .e latter adapted to extend a reater portion of the length of the blade or plate to reinforce and strengthen the same.

A distance removed from the rear end of the scraper blade or plate 12 are sockets 16 receiving a yoke 17, the latter adapted to swing in the sockets and having pivotally connected thereto as at 18 one end of a tie rod 19, the opposite end of which is bent on itself to form a hook 20 to detachably engage in eyes 21 disposed at intervals and pregecting from the inner face of the runner centrally thereof. The said tie rod 19 when in engagement with any one of the eves 21 will maintain the scraper blade or plate 12 at an adjusted angular position with respect to the runner. At the rear end of the scraper blade or plate 12 and secured to the inner face thereof is an anguhu'ly disposed strap loop 22 in which is slidably mounted an arm 23 which also passes through the yoke 17 and on the lower end of the said arm 21-? are formed spaced inwardly curved cars ll between which is mounted a rotatable ground roller 25 the latter journaled on an ahh- 2a ha vine; its bearingsin the said cars. Detachably connected to the runner 7 and suspended by hangers 38 is a platform 39 which is to be used as 'a seat bythe operator of the machine and this platform is positioned directly over the eyes 21 so as to prevent the hook 20 of the tie rodfrom becoming accidently disengaged from the eye. to which it is connected.

To hold the platform locked to the runner 7 there is a pivotal L-shaped latch 40'mounted upon the inner face of the said runner. In advance of the forward disk wheel 9 and bolted to the runner 7 is :1 depending cutter plate 41 to out into ,the ground and to prevent sidewise movement of the forward end of the runner as the machine is advanced.

'What is claimed is-'- 1. A machine of the class described comprising a runner, a scraper-blade hinged to the runner, a tie rod pivotally conneetedto the scraper blade and having a hook terminal, a plural ty of eyesprojectiiggl from the inner face of the runner centr y thereof and adapted to receive the hook terminal of the tie rod to angularly adjust the scraper blade with respect to the runner, disk wheels rotatably mounted on the runner, an adjustable arm suppiorted at the rear end of the scraper blade an having a ground roller, a, latform arranged between the runner and a justable blade and hangers detachably connecting the platform to the runner.

2. A machine of the classdescribed comprising a runner, having disk wheels rota- "tably mounted thereon near its lower longitudinal edge, a scraper blade hinged to the forward end of the runner, an adjustable ground roller supported by the scraper blade,

a tie rod having connectionwith the runner and scraper blade to adjust the latter at varying angles with respect to the runner, a platform having hangers detaehably connecting the same to the runner, means for locking the platform on the runner, a cutter plate bolted to the runner in advance of the forward disk wheel, and a draft bar pivotally connected to the forward end of the runner and having rod connection with the scraper blade.
