Description
N4 PETERS. PHnYo-LITHOGRAPMER. WASHINGTON. D. C.
@tutti dtjijfiw;
FRIEND -THRALL or osHKosH,
WISCONSIN, ASSIGNOR '10 HIM- SELF AND AVB. THRALL, OF SAME PLACE.
Lena-ramt No; 91";054, dem .Time s, 1869.
IMPROVE!) DOUGH-KNEADER.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making pari: Ot the same.
To all whom 'it may concern: l
Be itknown that I, FRIEND THRALL, of the city oi Oshkosh, State of Wisconsin, have invented a new' slide right and left on rollers in the direction of its length, and surmonnted with supports, located centrally to the length of the table, with bearings to maintain an adjustable roller contiguous to the sliding mould-board, and a vibratory dredge-box or iiour duster immediately above, the roller to be of any oon- -venien1`;form required' for kneading the dough, or
reducing the same into thin sheets for piecrust, crackers, cake, and other similar purposes. 'Figure 1 is a longitudinal section iu a vertical plane.
Figure 2 is a vertical crossfsection. Figure 3 is a side elevation of the roller-support, with a fragment of the table.
Figure 4is a perspective view of the table-top, shown in a reverse position as a mould-board. Figure 5 is a perspective view of a smooth roller.
Figure 6 is a perspective view off a knuckled roller.
A A is a table. Y
B is a reversible top, the one side used as a mouldboard,`the opposite side as an ordinary table-top.
0,' tig. 1, is a corrugated kneading-roller, with a crank, G.
D is a dredge-box, hinged to supports A,A, that receives an oscillating motion through the arm f, restf ing on a corrugated surface of the roller beneath.
d is a button to disconnect the arm f from the corrugated roller. I'
E is a disk that supports the mouldboard when 'in service.
` ELE are supplementary disks, that support and allow lthe mould-board to slide.
A A'- are supports, with bearings for rollers.
k k are bearings for rollers.
i and i2 are a hinged cap and button, that allon7 the roller to be conveniently'taken out or changed.
lv is a rod, secured at the bottom to the support A', and serves to maintain the bearing k in position.
g g are adjustingscrews, connected with bearings 0, iig. 5, is a smooth roller, for reducing to sheets, with a. corrugated end, ln.
C, iig. (his a knuckled roller, the base of which is polygonal in form, usually six-sided, and with each side setwith a row of half-ball-shaped disks, and has a corrugatedl end, n, and may, at option, be used in place of G, iig. 1, for kneading.
Having described the parts of my invention, I will now proceed to describe its operation for kneading bread. t
The top being adjusted, with mould-board side up, as seen iii Iig. 4, a kneading-roller being set in the supports A'A', and adjusted relatively to the mouldboard by the setscrews g g and the dredge-box D, adjustedtbrough the arm f to rest on 'the corrugated surface' of the roller, the dredge-box is supplied with flour, and the sponge is placed on the mould-bo`ard, to be passed, turned, and repassed beneath the roller, the rollers and mould-board being dredged with flour from the box D to prevent sticking', until the dough is brought to a proper consistenc For pie-crust, set andadj ust the roller C, iig. 5; pass l the dough beneath the roller until reduced to a proper thickness.
The supports A"`may be permanently or temporarilyend rests under the kneading-roller where it may be' secured through the adjustingfscrews, by dropping the roller until it rests rmly on' the end of the mouldboard, thus allowing free use of the whole size of the mould-board for pastry or other purposes.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- l. A reversible sliding mould-board and table-.top B, as described, arranged relatively to eitherkneading -or reducing-rollers, the latter having bearings in the supports A A', and provided with adjusting-screws g @traverse-bearings It' k, and hinged box-caps it", subl stantially as described, for the purposes set forth.
2. The roller O, iig. 6, provided with a crank, C',
and constructed substantially as described, when arranged, relatively to the supports A A' and sliding mould-board B, as and for the purposes set forth.
3. The dredge-box D, arranged, relativelyto roller C and mould-board B, as and for the purposes set forth.
4. Box D, provided with button d' and arm j, arranged, relatively to a roller beneath, substantially as and for the purposes set forth. s
` 4FRIEND THRALL.
