To all whom it may concern; Beit known that i, DENNIS I. LAR'KIN, a

citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county ofI SangFrancisco and State of California, have invented new and useful VImprovements in Carpenters" Bench-Stops, of which the `following is a specification.

The present invention relates to an improved carpenters bench stop., the object of the invention beinO to arovide an instrunient of this character which willbe simple in construction, which can be readily removed when not in use, which will be more Convenient and rapid in operation than de-v vices of this character at present in use, which can be used as a stoprfor a board either laid on ,the top of the bench or placed on its edge at the front side of the bench, and which may be quickly adjusted` to vary the distance between the stop and the bench.

Referring to the drawing, 1 indicates a carpenters bench, having' Securedupon the front side thereof, a board 2te form a rest upon which to place the lower VVedge of a board when it is desired to plane or etherwise operate upon the upper edge thereof.

In the ordinary carpenters bench stop, when it is desired to adjust the same for opscrew driver to turn the screw which secures the stop to the bench, and this necessitates the linding and picking up of another instrument.

My improved bench stop is always in position ready foruse, and all that is necessary is'to turn the hand wheel to loosen the bench stop and then to secure it again in its adj usted position.

l do not claim herein broadly a plate having short and long parallel edges and having, at each end, a series of teeth projecting at right angles thereto, the series being at right angles to each other but oblique to said edges, and means for securing such a plate to Va bench, as this construction forms the subjectV of a separate application now pending, filed December 9, 1908.

1. A bench stop comprising a plate having, at each end, a series of teeth for engaging an end of a board, said series being formed at right angles to each other, but oblique'to the general direction of the plate,

and a device for securing said plate to the bench, said plate being provided with means for permitting its adjustment upon said se-` curing device longitudinally of the general direction of the plate, and obliquely relatively toeach series of teeth, substantially as described.

2. A bench stop comprising a slotted plate having at each end a series of teeth in aplane each at right angles to the plane of the plate,

and each at right angles to the other, and a to secure said plate to the bench, substantially as described.

A bench stop comprising` a plate having formed at each end a series ot' teeth extending in a plane at right angles to the plane of the plate, means for securing said plate in contact With the end of the bench, each series of teeth extendingl obliquely to the general direction of the plate, whereby, when said plate is so secured diagonally across the end of the bench, one of said series may be parallel With, and adjacent, to the top oitl the bench, and the other series parallel with, and adjacent to, the side of the bench, substantially as described.

4. bench stop comprising a plate having formed at each end a series oi' teeth extending in a plane at right angles to the plane of the plate, means for securing said plate in contact With the end of the bench, each series of teeth extending obliquely to the geneal direction of the plate, whereby, when said plate is so secured diagonallyl across the end ot' the bench, one of said series may be parallel With, and adjacent to, the side of the bench, and means for permitting the adjustment of said plate while parallel With said slot, and adapted to eul gage the end ot a bench, a series of teeth extending from each end of the plate in a plane at right angles to the plane ol the plate, and a securing device adapted te pass through said slot for securing' said plate to the bench, substantially as descrilfied.
