Be it known that I, KARL Krrnns, asubject of the King of Frussia, German Emperor, and resident of 27-29 Stefanstrasse, Aachen, in the Province of the Rhine, German Empire, engineer, have invented newk air mixture for the purpose of economically producing a flame of higher temperature. buch a burner is described in my prior U. S. Patent No. 802,297, dated October 17th, i905.
The object of the present invention is to effect a still greater economy in burners of this type and this greater economy is effected by pre-heating the gas of the ure gas flame. The arrangement used may a so be adapted to effect a pre-heating of the mixture, so that the pure gas as well as the mixture of gas and air passes to the burner in a heated state. Burner constructions of this kind can be used for common upright incandescent gas-lights as well as for those of the inverted type.

e2 is an enlarged short tube forming the continuation of the tapered part e and fitting into the chamber or recess g of the insulated body. The latter can be provided with projections or ribs of heat-conducting material for increasing the reheating action of the arrangement. At the lower end or near it a number of holes i are cut into the tube h, through which fresh air enters from the outside and admixes with the gas within the tube h. This arrangement as foregoing described operates in. the following manner The gas flows partially through the openings b and enters partially the inner tube a. That gas, which passes the opening t, mixes in the annular space formed by the tubes a and h with air and discharges at the top of the tube h through the openings and slots 'n and mrespectvely, after havingpassed the sieve ir. The part of the gas entering the vtube a flows upward through the tube c and then downward through the annular space Vformed by the tubes c and d. In passing through the space the gas becomes intensely re-heated on account of the outer tube d eing surrounded by the lamp flame, which pre-heated gas finally enters the chamber g and from there passes through a number of small openings e in the tapered part e', where it admixes with the gas and air mixture, which immediately afterward rushes through holes 'n and slots m into the flame.
In the Fig. 4 a modified arrangement of the preheating device is illustrated. According to this figure the outer tube d is dispensed with and a tube a closed at its upper end, is provided within the chamber g with openings or perforations b2. The tapered part e of the mantle e2 is attached to the tube a/ and provided with openings e. By means of this arrangement the heat is conducted from the upper part of the tube a to its lower portions and in this Way the loWei1 poition of the tube e is pie-heated by the time it passes through the openings Z22. The mixtures oi gas and aii1 which lave around the hot Wells of the lower portions of tube a will in this construction be also preheated to ai ceitein extent before it reaches the burner heed.
