HIN GE To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY ERNST, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county oi' Cook and State of Illinois, .have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hinges, oi' which the ioilowingI is a specification.
This invention relates particularly to spring hinges used i'or hanging doors.
'The object oi" the invention, generally stated, is to provide a hinge, the parts oi" which ma)T be formed wholl)T oi sheet metal stainpings.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation oi' a hinge embodying the features oi' my invention, one of the leaves being represented as opened. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the hinge with both leaves closed. Fig. 3 is a horizontal transverse section through the hinge. F ig. 4 is a perspective view oi' the central web or member.
The embodiment herein shown oi my invention is a double-action spring hinge. The central member is an integral sheet metal stamping comprising the web l having at its corners horizontally extending perforated ears 2 to receive the pintles 3 oil the hinge, and curved flanges 4 joining the ears at op posite vertical edges olvl the web 1. Each of the leaves 6 as herein siown, has a iange or rib 9 at its upper and lower edges on each face, which flanges iit over the upper and lower ends ol the central web 1, as indicated in Figs. l and 2.
I claim as my invention:
l. A central member for double acting spring-hinges comprising a web having ears at its corners extending at right angles to said web, and curved ilanges at the opposite vertical edges of said web joining pairs of ears.
2. A central member for double acting spring hinges comprising a web, horizontally-extending ears at the corners oi said web, curved ilanges connecting pairs ol ears at opposite vertical edges ol' said web, and stiiiiening ribs at opposite horizontal edges oi'l said web, all oi' said parts being l'ormed oll an integral piece ol sheet metal.
