Description

a academia "ALVAH VVORSTER,A OFAHANNIBYAL, NEW YORK.
Letters Patent No. 91,809, dated June 22, 1869.
IMI-"H'ROVIElD` HARNESS-LOOP.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and. making 'part of the same.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALvkH WoRs'rER, of Hannibal, in the `county of Oswego, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Harness- Loops; and I do hereby declare that'the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the 'accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a front view of my invention;
Figure is a sectional side View; and
Figure 3 shows the loop detached from the other arts. l p Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding arts. p The object of this invention is to make a harnessloop that is rself-adjusting, so that it will hug a thin strap or accommodate a ,thick one;` and The invention consists in placing the loop considerably to one side of its fastening to the strap, in such manner that the loop is held down in an elastic manner, and capable of adjusting itself' to the thickness of strap in all cases, as hereinafter more fully explained.
In the accompanying drawings- A and B are the parts of the strap;
4 a is thebuckle; and
f, the loop.A
The buckle and' loop are made in two parts, and entirely separate from each other, as shown in iig. l.
The loop f is secured to the strap A by a rivet, o,
through its cross-bar e, and is supported at some distance to one side of said rivet'by means of arms C O.
By attachingthe loop in this manner, it is held down on the strap with a degree of elasticity, so as to adjust itself to straps of different thickness.
Tile arms G G are extended beyond the rivet o, in the opposite direction, as shown by g g, so as to cover the edges of the strap, between the buckle and the essential parts of the loop, and thus, by making the metallic parts more continuous, give the whole a more Iinished appearance.
The buckle is secured in the fold of the strap, and all the parts secured bythe single rivet o, as shown.
The buckle and loop being made in separate parts, also gives agreater degree of' flexibility, as a whole.
I'aware that a loop somewhat similar to mine has been Vmade in one piece with a buckle; but this I disclaim, as it formsno part of my invention.
' Having thus described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let- As a new article of manufacture, the harness-loop g o e f, when arranged and constructed as described,
` and adapted to be fastened to the strap at one point only, by a single rivet, passing through 'the opening o, said rivet also securing the buckle, as herein shown and described.
The. above specification of my invention signed by me, this 9th day of September, 1868.-
ALVAH WORS'IER.
