Description

W. D. & R. W. FLETCHER. DISH MOP AND SGRAPER.
Mar a/22:;
UNITED STATES PATENT Enron.
WESLEY D. FLETCHER AND ROBIN W. FLETCHER, OF PENDLETON, OREGON.
DISH MOP AND SCRAPER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, WESLEY D. FLETcnER and ROBIN W. FLETCHER, citizens of the United States, residing at Pendleton, in the county of Uinatilla and State of Oregon,
have invented a new and useful Improvement in Dish Mops and Scrapers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to dish mops and more particularly to a combined dish mop and scraper, the object being to provide a dish mop with a scraper so that the hard substance that sticks to dishes when washing the same, can be readily loosened by the scraper, so that it can be wiped off with the mop.
Another object of our invention is to so construct the mop and scraper that it can be readily used for either a mop or a scraper or both at the same time.
Another object of our invention is to provide very novel me ans for holding the scraper in an extended position or withdrawn.
Another object of our invention is to provide very novel means for releasing the scraper so that it will extend out beyond the mop when it is desired to use the same.
With these and other objects in view, our invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claims.
Figure 1 is a side view of our improved mop and scraper. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional vieW of the same. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view showing a scraper secured in position tobe used. Fig. 4 is a section taken on the line a e of Fig. 2, and Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of the scraper locking 4 means, detached.
Referring to the drawing A indicates a wooden handle having a reduced end A in which is secured a mop B by a ring B. The mop being formed. of any suitable material,
such as yarn, cloth or leather. The handle is provided with a vertical bore A which communicates with a transverse bore A formed in the handle adjacent its reduced end, in which is secured a cylindrical casing C provided with a closed end and with oppositely disposed slots C, C the slot C communicating with the bore A Mounted in the casing C is a plug D pro vided with oppositely dis osed lugs D which work in the slots C of t e casing, and prevent the plug from coming out of the same.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June 7, 1907.
Patented April 13, 1909.
Serial No. 377,792.
The plug is provided with a button D at one end and a head D at the other formed by a reduced flat portion which is provided with a slot D adapted to aline with the slot C of the casing. A' coiled spring E is arranged in the casing, one end. of which bears against the head of the plug and the other against the closed end of the casing, so as to normally hold the plug extended.
A scraper blade F extends up through the bore, casing and slot in the plug provided with a notch F adjacent its upper end in one edge, in which the reduced portion of the plug is adapted to be forced by the spring when the scraper is dropped, so as to ring the notch into alinement with the same which will securely lock the scraper in an extended position, so that it can be readily used.
It can be readily seen that when the scraper is forced up into the bore, that the tension of the spring against the plug will hold the scraper in that osition out of the way. The lower end of t 1e scraper is sharpened so that it will remove any hard su stance from. the pan or dish easily, and it will be readily seen that by pressing on the button, the scraper will drop down into po sition to be used and securely locked. It will also be readily seen that by pressing the button inwardly when the scraper is in an extended position and pressing down on the handle, the scraper will be forced up into the same and securely held in that position.
A screw-eye is secured in the end of the handle, so that the mop can be readily hung up on a hook when desired.
From the foregoing description. it will be readily seen that we have provided a very novel mop which is very simple and cheap in construction, and one which is very effective in use.
By removing the ring B which is secured thereon by friction, the mop can be detached so as to be cleaned or a new one inserted.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. The combination with a mop handle provided with a vertical bore and transverse bore communicating with each other, of a casing secured in the transverse bore provided with op esitely disposed slots communicating wit the vertical bore, said casing being provided with oppositely disposed tending into the last mentioned slots of the casing, a spring arranged in the casing bearing against the end of said plug and a scraper blade slidably mounted in the slots of the casing and in the vertical bore and provided with a notch adapted to receive the reduced portion of said plug, for the purpose described.
2. The combination with a handle carrying a mop, and provided with a longitudinal i; bore, and a transverse bore communicating with each other, of a casing secured in said transverse bore, a slotted plug mounted in said casing, a scraper mounted in said longitudinal bore and extending through said cas ing and slotted plug and means for holding said plug, into engagement With said scraper.
3. A device of the kind described comprising a handle, a mop carried by the hand e, a scraper slidably carried by the handle and a slotted locking plug passing through the handle and engaging said scraper, the scraper passing transversely through said plug.
4. The combination with a handle provided with a longitudinal boreand a transverse bore communicating with each other, of a casing secured in the transverse bore, a slotted plug mounted in said casing, a spring mounted in said casing bearing against said plug, a mop secured to said handle, and a scraper blade slidably mounted in the longitudinal bore and extending through said casing and plug, said scraper being provided with a notch to receive said plug.
