HAIR-SUPPORTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April e, 1909.
Application filed November 14, 1908. Serial No. 462,580.
To all. whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, Aime Evil. 1). Josiarrr. a citizen of the United States of America, and resident oi. North .larrytwn \Vesrhester county, and State of New York, and FRANZ Knonirn, a subject of the Emperor of Germany. and resident of the borough of Bronx, city, county, and. State of New York, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Hair-Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to hair supports and has for its object to provide a simple and el'iectire support on which false hair may be clamped against movement for the purpose or coiling. ln'aiding or otherwise manipulating or dressing it which support or clamp may be readily used in the household thus doing away with the necessity of sending such hair to the professional hair dresser for dressing.
Our invention is particularly adapted for supporting ialse puffs in position and for re-coiling. as will be fully described hereinafter.
The features of novelty in the a ppcnded claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings in which Figure l is a front elevation of our improved device: Fig. 2 is a sectional view ihereot on the line 2-2 of Fig. l and Fig. 3 is a plan view with parts broken away for the sake oi clearness.
in the drawings A is a standard pro- \ltlkfll with a projection A. and a shoulder adapted to engage a. table or other support 8 as clearly shown in Fig.
is a screw which extends through the projection A and engages the lower surface of the support l3 thus securely clamping the siai'idard .i in position. If desired a strip oi. t'elt or like material l) may be secured to the shoulder A} to prevent marring or scratching of the upper surface of the support 13.
A. separate carrying member E is mounted on the upper end. or the standard A and is provided with an opening E through which extends t thumb screw F. This thumb will be pointed out screw i is arranged to screw into the upper which the screw It extends. ihus upon loosening the screw IF the carrying member may be freely moved in a horizontal plane about said screw as a pivot and may be secured in any adjusted. position by simply tightening said screw F. A reinforcing ring E may be fastened at the upper end oi. the opening E for the purpose of preventing wear on the carrying member E. The front edge of the carrying member E is preferably curved and is thinned down to form a reduced portion E. A series of spaced vertically projecting pins G are secured. to the reduced portion E of the carrying member E near the curved edge thereof.
H is a locking member or cover which is hinged at H to the member E and conforms substantially to the shape of the carrying member E. This locking member H projects over the pins G and is maintained in its operative or locking position by means of a pivoted latch H In the drawing the device is shown as supporting a false pull? 1 which is to be recoiled. The hair in putl's of this description is usually mounted on ribbon or strips ct material vl. hen it is desired to clamp the hair in position for dressing, this ribbon is laid on the reduced portion E back oi the pins G which are projected through the hair as illustrated in Fig. 2. The locking cover H is swung down on its hinges over the free ends oi. the said pins and locked in position by the latch H The hair in this position hangs freely and is held in position for easy manipulation yet is prevented ilrom being pulled out of the clamp by the pins G. By loosening the screw 1* the carrying member E may be released. for adjustment to any position so that all parts of the puii are brought into a readily accessible position.
It will thus be seen that we have provided a device which may easily be clamped to a table or other support and which supports the hair to be dressed in proper position for treatment and which securely holds said hair in such position. The device comprises few parts and is thus easy to manufacture and is not likely to become easily disarranged.
Instead of using the pins G for preventing the hair from being pulled out edgewise, the device might be provided with other means to accomplish this as for instance a serrated outer edge.
Various modifications may be made Without departing from the nature of our invention as described in the claims.
\Ve claim as our invention:
1. A device for supporting false hair comprising a carrying member movable in a horizontal plane, and provided With holding means for holding the false hair, a support for said carrying member, and means engag-- ing said support and carrying member for preventing relative movement between said member and support.
2. A device for supporting false hair comprising a carrying member provided near its front edge with projecting pins for holding the false hair, a locking member secured to said carrying member and arranged to extend over the free ends of the pins, and a support for the carrying member.
3. A device for supporting false hair comprising a carrying member provided near its front edge With projecting pins for holding the false hair, a locking member secured to said carrying member and arranged to extend over the free ends of the pins, a latch for holding said locking member against 1 said pins, and a support for the carrying press on said holding members.
5. A device for supporting false hair or other fiber, comprising a support, and a carrier mounted to turn thereon and provided With upright holding members arranged in the arc of a circle Whose center is on' the axis of the carrier.
6. A device for supporting false hair or other fiber, comprising a carrier provided with a series of upright holding members projecting from its face and arranged in a curve.
In testimony whereof We have hereunto set our hands in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
ANNA M.D.JOSEFFY. FRANZ KROEHN. itnesses JOHN LOTKA, FRANK F. KIRKPATRTOK.
