LOUIS BRAMSQN, OF COPENHAGEN, DENMARK.
MASSAGE APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 23, 1909.
Application filed June 2, 1908. Serial No. 136,255.
the suction-cup is provided with a handle by which it may be manipulated to give the best results, the invention consisting in the improved connection existing between the suction-cup and handle. The particular connection employed is constructed with a view of obtaining maximum simplicity and readiness of attachment, while at the same time the turning of the handle with respect to the cup is permitted so as to obviate the tendency to twist the cup when pulling the same.
The accompanying drawing shows in elevation and partly in cross-section a device constructed according to the invention. 7
The suction-cup a can be of any approved form and is connected at its upper part to a nipple c by which connection is made through a flexible pipef with a suction-pump g of any approved type. The nipple c has at its-upper portion a lateral extension provided with a cock 6, and the extremity of said extension is connected by means of a spout'j with a socket i at the end of the suction-tubef. The connection is made between the suction-cup a and nipple cby means of a nut d screwed on the threaded extremity of the nipple within the suction-cup, as shown.
Above the suction-cup the, nipple is provided with a shoulder 0 about which fits the lower central portion of. a bail b forming part of a handle b. The provision of an opening in said bail which fits about the shoulder c aiiords a swivel connection between the bail and suction-cup, so that the handle I) may be turned in a plane parallel to that to which the suction-cup is applied. The upper portion of the handle I) is formed by a suitable crosspiece b connecting the terminals of the bail b and adapted to be grasped by the hand.
When, the apparatus is to be used the suc-.
tion-cup is pressed against the part of the body to be treated and the rarefication of the air in the cup is produced by means of the suction-pump g, the cock e being open. As soon as a suitable degree of adhesion has been obtained the work of the suction-pump is interrupted by closing the cock 6, and the flexible pipe f may be disconnected if so desired. The operator may then, by means of the handle l), e'liecta thorough massage by giving the handle straight pulls away from the surface under treatment.
Owing to the swivel connection between the suction-cup and handle, the operator does not need to turn his hand into cramped positions, and all risk of twisting the suctioncup while pulling is obviated. The simple connection between the suction-cup and nipple, by which the cup can be easily replaced when necessary for one of another size, is also an important feature of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In a massage apparatus, the combination of a suction-cup, a connecting nipple by which the cup is exhausted, and a handle having a bail swiveled on said nipple.
2. In a massage apparatus, the combination of a suction-cup, a connecting nipple by which the cup is exhausted, and a handle having a bail swiveled on said nipple and a crosspiece connecting the terminals of the bail.
3. In a massage apparatus, the combination of a suction-cup, a connecting nipple extending into the cup, a nut threaded. on
the nipple and connecting the same with the cup, a shoulder on the nipple exteriorly of the cup, and a handle having a bail provided -with an opening fitting around said shoulder.
4. The combination of a suction-cup, a nipple connected therewith, means connected with said nipple to create a vacuum in said cup, a handle by which the cup may be 'manipulated, and a swivel connection between the handle and cup.
In testimony, that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name in presenceof two subscribing witnesses.
LOUIS BRAMSON.
