To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CLIFTON S. EHRHART, citizen of the United States, residing at Franklin, in the county of Venango and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjusting-Jacks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

The object of my invention is to provide a device by means of which the polished rod, and the thereto attached sucker-rod, of an oil well may be quickly and easily adjusted without stopping the operation of the pumping machinery.

The construction and application of my device will be fully understood by a reference to the accompanying drawings which form a part hereof and in which- Figure l is a front elevation. Fig. 2 is a front elevation partly in longitudinal section. Fig. 3 is a side elevation. Fig. 4C is a plan view. Fig. 5 is a section on line V V of Fig. 2. Fig. 6 is a section on line VI, VI of Fig. 1. Fig. 7 is an elevation of the upper portion of an oil well, showing the application of -my adjusting jack.

The construction of my improved jack is in Fig. 7; said jaw is actuated or caused to bear upon said rod by means of the screw 6. When my device is in use, the same is placed upon the adjuster 7, as shown in Fig. 7, the polished rod 11 is received by and occupies the slot aforesaid; said rod is then firmly clamped between the jaw 5 and the opposing side of head 4, the wrench is placed upon the screw portion 8 of the body and a suit able pin 9 is placed in one of the holes of the base 3, by means of which screw 2 may be prevented from revolving. By loosening the adjuster set screw 10 and turning body 1 by means of the wrench 8, the polished rod,and the thereto attached sucker-rod may be. raised or lowered as desired, and when the desired adjustment is secured, the adjuster set screw is tightened and my adjusting jack may be removed.
