S. C. LAWLOR.
WRINGER.
APPLICATION HLBD Nov. 4, 1907.

SIMEON C. LAWLCR, OF DULUTH, MINNESOTA.
WRINGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 20, 1908.
Application led November 4, 1907. Serial No. 400,557.
To all whom 'it may concem: Y
Be it known thatv I, SIMEON C. LAWLoR, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Duluth, in the county of St. Louis and State of Minnesota, have inventedv certain new and useful Improvements in Wringers, of which the following is a specification. f
Myinvention relates to wringers to wrlng the water from cloths, etc. and its object is to provide such a wringer that .shall be simple and economical in construction and slmple in operation. This object -1s attalned by, and my invention is embodied in the following mechanism, illustrated by the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is an isometric rojectlon of my wringer: Fig. 2 is a side e evation thereof; and Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the same,
showing certain of the parts in vertical section.
In bearings 2 ina frame 1, adapted to be attached `to a bucket, etc. indicated in Fig. l, rotate the journals of one wringer-roller 3. The cooperating wringer-roller 4 rotates in bearings in an 'operating lever 5 which is detachably fulcrumed at 9 on the frame 1. The lever 5 being removed from the frame l, the material to be wrun (as a mop carried by the mop-handle 7 is laid on the roller 3. The lever 5 is then placed in position, the journals of the roller 4'be1ng inserted into the open slots or guides 6 on the frame, which guides are so disposed that by pressing the handle 8 downward the journals of the roller 4 are carried by the guides -.obliquely toward the roller 3, thus imparting a greater pressure on the material than if ithe rollers were moved toward each other directly. To allow the attaching and detaching of the lever and to permit said oblique motion of the roller 4, the lever at its fulcrum end is provided with open slots 10 elongated in the longitudinal direction of the lever, by which slot the lever turns and slides on its fulcrum, the lug 9 carried by the frame at each side thereof.
A ratchet 12 at each side of the frame is l engaged by a pawl 13 (pivoted on the lever and releasable by the handle-portion 14 of the pawl-carryinglspindle 15) to retain the roller 4 in a fixed position against the pressure of the roller 3 caused by a spring 11 at each side of the frame tendlng to move the journals ofthe roller 3 in their slot bearings 2 toward the roller 4.
.The handle l8 of the lever 5 is preferably pivoted at I18 on Athe lever body at each side thereof as shown to admit of adjusting the direction of the handle to the convenience of the user. The handle is held in the desired positlon by its lug 16 yheld in one of the recesses of a rack 19 at each side of the body of the lever, by a spring 20 engaging the handle beneath its slot pivot bearlng 17 and pressing 1t upwardly. Une of the rollers (as the roller 4 as shown) is preferably provided with a crank 21 to turn it.
-The roller journals are preferably provided with gears 22 and 23 adapted to mesh together (one gear 23 preferably of lanternwheel form as shown), erably splined at 24 as shown and is movable on its shaft into and out of engaging position with the other gear, being retained in either position by a pin inserted in one or the other hole 25.
It will be seen that, one of the rollers being removablefrom the frame which carries the coperatlng roller, the material may be more easily placed in position than could otherwise be.
l Not confining myself to the details of construction shown and described further than as set forth in the claims, I claim:
1. In a wringer, the combination of a frame, a wringer-roller rotatable in a bearing in the frame, an operating lever detachably fulcrumed on the frame by an open slot bearing elongated longitudinally in the lever,
open slot guide in the frame adapted to yreceive a guided lug to guide the second roller, said guide being so disposed as to press by the operation of the lever the second roller obliquely toward the first roller.
2. In a wringer, the combination of a frame, a wringer roller rotatable in a bearing in the frame, an operating lever detachably fulcrumed on the frame,l a coperating second wringer roller rotatable in a bearing in the lever, and a curved open slot guide in ythe frame lug borne by the second wringer roller, said guide being so disposed as to press by the operation of the lever one wringer roller obliquely toward the other wringer roller.
3. In a wringer, the combination of a frame, a wringer roller rotatable in a bearing in the frame, an operating lever detachably fulcrumed 'on the frame by an open and one gear is prefa cooperating second wringer-roller y rotatable 1n a bearlng 1n the lever, and an adapted to receive a guided press the first wringer roller dametrieally toward such fixed position of the second Wringer roller.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my 15 name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
SIMEON C. LAWLOR.
slot bearing elongated longitudinally in the lever, a coperating second wringer roller rotatable in a bearing in the lever, an open slot guide in the frame adapted. to receive a guided lug borne by the second Wringer roller said guide being so disposed as to press by the operation of the lever one wringer roller obliquely toward the other Wringer roller, means to hold the second wringer roller in a fixed position in the course of its oblique travel, and a spring to W'itnesses:
