The resent invention provides vimproved means or forcing the core boxnto the bed of sand, avoiding the use of a gear or frame overhead. and also avoiding the use `of a plunger or press overhead. Improved means are also providedV for tiltingor rocking. the core box after the cores are moldedtherein, for the purpose of depositing said box upon a table, where the halfcores` formed in a similar box can be united.

To .lock the strips 9 and hold them irmly gin place duringthe vibrationlocking straps 14 are provided, connected by a cross bar 15 at therear end of the machine and provided with a handle 16. These straps are notched as indicated at 17 and slide in rebates formed inthefinner edge of the vibrating frame 4.
The straps may be moved to register the `notches 17 with the slots in the sand plate, y or with the ends ofthe strips 10, and after the strips are raised into position the straps 14 are shifted to bring the solid part'thereof under the strips 10, so that they are thereby locked to the sand plate and are thereby lifted with the sand plate, to hold the core rods in place when the core box is removed `from the machine. vTo this end, the strips 10 are grooved on the under side, as indicatedat 10, to iit over the upper edges of cross pieces 11a forming part of the frame 11. VThe half core box is indicated at 18, having slots 18a' to allow the escape of the surplus sand which works up therethrough,and thiscore box is carried. in a rocking frame 19,by means of laterally-sliding clamps 2O which laremounted on the frame 19 and engter under straps 21 on the back or upper side "of 'the `core box.` The clamps are so arranged as tohold the face of the core box a n 'slightdistanca say one thirty-second of an "inch, above the face of the sand plate. The outer ends of the arms 22 have adjustable counter-weights 82, which may be adjusted thereon to` properly balance the Weight of the core box and associated parts. The weights have studs or trunnions which travel in slots 38 in the arms 22 so that the weightsmay be rolled from one end to the other of the slots. Mounted upon the frame 19 are pawls 84 arranged to engage ratchets 35 on the shaft 23, for the purpose of preventing swing or rocking of the frame with respect to the shaft.
In order to clamp the half core box 18, and the frame 19, to the sand plate 8, inverted T clamps 36 are provided, the heads of which work through slots 37 in the sand plate and when pressed down and turned will engage under the sand plates and lock the sand plate and frame 19 together. In order to allow this the shaking frame 4 is provided with circular recesses 88 in which the heads of the T clamps extend and in which they may be turned. Springs 39 hold the clamps up out of the way when not in use. The clamps 20 slide in and out laterally to hold or release the half core, box 18, and may be Vfixed by set screws 40 which extend through slots 41 in the clamps. The clamps work under straps 42 secured to the top of the frame 19. y
In operation, the sand is rst placed on the sand plate to the required depth, and the frame 19, with the core box 18 in place therein, isswung over upon the sand. The frame 4 and sand plate are then vibrated by the means shown, a-nd the core box is pressed down into the sand by turning the crank handle 81 in the proper direction, which pulls down on the rack bars 34 and consequently presses the core box into the sand, the pawls 34 being engaged with the ratchet 3-5 to prevent turning or lift of the pivoted frame. Then the boxes are packed the frame 19 and the sand plate 8 are clamped down and given. a half turn. The pawls 84 are then released. The rocking frame 19, with the half box 18 and sand plate 8 held thereby, may then be swung up or rocked on the shaft 28 as a pivot and brought over to the opposite side, with the sand plate and core box face upward, and allowed to rest or be received on a table which may be backed up to the end of the machine to receive the same. rlhe core box can then be unclamped and allowed to remain on the table, and afterwards joined to a similar half core box for the purpose of forming the entire core. The strips 10, being locked to the sand plate 8, also lift when the frame is swung over, and are afterwards removed with the sand plate and replaced in position upon their supports 11a.
The rocking action of the frame which and and supports the core box permits speedy convenient placing or removal thereof, is much superior to the overhead press and tra-veler` disclosed in my said patent. The idea' of forcing the core box into the sand plate while the sand is being vibrated, as disclosed .in my former patent, is retained and utilized in the improved form of machine herein claimed. The combination of the swinging or rocking frame carrying a cere box, with a vibrating sand plate, may be utilized or embodied in various other inedilications or machines differing in detail from the embodiment shown and described herein.
I claim:
1. In a core-molding machine, the combination of a horizontally vibrating sand plate, a rocking core box adapted to be, swung down upon the sand on the plate, and means to press the core box into the sand.
2. In a core-molding machine, the combination of a horizontally vibrating sand. plate, a rocking f'ame pivoted beside the same, a core box held by the frame, and adapted to swing down upon the sand on the plate, and means to apply pressure to the core box, to force the same into the sand.
3. In a core-molding machine, the conlbination of a vibrating sand plate, a frame pivoted beside the plate, a core box mounted on the frame and arranged to swing therewith to and from the sand plate, and a counterweight on the frame, at the opposite side of the pivot to the core box.
4. In a core-molding machine, the combination of a supporting frame, a sand plate mounted to vibrate horizontally thereon, a rocking frame pivotally mounted at the end of the supporting frame and carrying a counterbalanced core box arranged to rock over to and from the plate, and clamps for attaching together the rocking frame and the sand plate.
5. In a core-molding machine, the combination of a sand plate and a vibrating support therefor, a rocking frame pivoted adjacent the plate, to swing to and from the same, a core box clamped to the frame, and clamps for attaching together the rot-.king frame and the sand plate.
G. In a core-molding machine, the combination of a supporting frame, a sand plate mounted thereon, a shaft extending across one end of the frame and having vertically movable supports, a rocking frame mounted on the shaft, means to prevent swing of the frame, and a core box carried by the roeking frame and arranged to swing therewith down upon the sand plate.
7. In a core-molding machine, the combination of a supporting frame, a sand plate mounted thereon, a shaft extending across the end of the frame and having ratchets, vertically movable rack bars supporting the shaft, a crank and pinions meshing with the rack bars to raise or lowerl the same, a rook'- ing frame pivotally mounted on the shaft and having pawls engageablewith the ratchet, and a core boX carried by the Arocking frame and arranged to swing:therewith, to. and from the sand plate.. 7
8. The combination With ,ay supporting frame andslotted sand'plate thereon, of a core boX which may be secured upon the sand plate, removable strips fitting in lthe slots, and means to'look the same to the sand plate when desired. V
