UNITED STAZFES PglENT OFFICE.
AZY HOLLIE HARMAN, OF PHILADELPHIA. PENNSYLVANIA.
MOTOR-CYCLE FRAME.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Am HOLLIE HARMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Motor-Cycle Frame, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a new and useful mot-or cycle frame and consists of a tank for gasolene or fluids forming a continuous upper bar without any joint therein and in a novel means of mounting the head stem therein.
It further consists in novel means for mounting the seat with respect to the fluid tank.
It further consists of novel means for mounting the cylinder oil tank.
It further consists of novel means for supporting the engine directly from the fluid tank.
It further consists of other novel features of construction, all as will be hereinafter fully set forth.
Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a motor cycle embodying my invention. Fig. 2 re resents a vertical sectional view of the flui tank and parts connected therein with the head stem omitted. Fig. 3 represents a sectional view of a portion of the device showing the manner of connecting the supports or braces for the engine with the fluid or gas tank. Fig. 4 represents a vertical sectional view showing the manner of supporting the battery casing and the tool casing.
In motor cycles now in use, owing to the arrangement and construction of the parts, the frame is extremely heavy and cumbersome and my invention is designed to form a strong and durable construction and one that is simple and inexpensive to construct.
In the drawings, I have shown a form for carrying out my invention but it will be evident that the parts may be varied and other instrumentalities may be employed 1 which will come within the scope of my 1nvention and I do not therefore desire to be limited in every instance to the exact construction herein shown and described but desire to make such changes as may come within the scope of the invention and as may be necessary.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures.
heferring to the drawings, 1 designates a gasolene or fluid tank which forms a continuous upper bar for the frame of the ma- Specification of Letters Patent.

chine without any joints, said tank having suitable means for filling the same, in the present instance, through the opening 2 which is closed by the stopper 3. Brazed or otherwise secured in the forward end of the tank 1 is a tube or head 4 which is suitably inclined and with which inclination the front wall 5 of the tank corresponds. Said tube or head is provided at its upper and lower ends with ball races 6 and said tube is adapted to receive the head stem 7 of the fork 8 of the cycle, which is adapted to be connected with the front wheel 9, said head stem 7 having the ball races 10 thereon between which and the ball races 6 in the head 4: the balls are retained, it being understood that said head 7 is adapted to receive a handle bar pin 11 so that the guiding of the motor can be accomplished, the handle bars 12 extending rearwardly as desired and being adjustable in any well known or desired manner.
13 designates a cylinder oil tank which is A connected with the fluid or gasolene tank 1 adjacent the lower wall thereof extending a suitable distance therewith, said cylinder oil tank being secured to the fluid tank in any desired manner, in the present instance, by means of the bolt 14 and nuts 15, passing through a tube 16 which is brazed or otherwise secured to the gasolene or fluid tank, said oil tank 13 having a tube 17 brazed thereto and in which is adapted to be seated a tube 18 which is brazed or otherwise secured to the gasolene or fluid tank 1. Passing through said tube 18 is a bolt 19 having a nut 20 thereon, which bolt is adapted to be connected with the cylinder 21 of the engine, said cylinder also carrying the crank casing 22, in which the crank and its operative arts are mounted. By this means it will e seen that the cylinder and engine will have a direct vertical support and that the same will be situated at a point adjacent the cylinder oil tank, so that the oil therein will always be kept warm or in proper consistency to properly operate, the advantages of which will be evident. Connected with the cylinder oil tank 13 is a pipe 23 having a suitable valve therein for conducting oil to the crank casing.
24 designates a carburetor which has suitable pi e connecting with the interior of the gaso ene or fluid tank and also a pipe leading over to the cylinder 21 of the engine.
25 designates a tube or pipe brazed to the fluid or gasolene tank 1 through which Ali the engine.
shown the crank sprocket 39 as having a passes bolt 26 which serves to support the a continuous jointless upper bar forming a casing 27, which is adapted to contain batteries 29, shown in dotted lines Fig. l, and the induction coil 28 also shown in dotted lines, it being understood that any number of batteries may be employed, but I have shown in the drawings only two. The casing 27 is preferably subdivided by a partition 30 which forms a chamber 31 which is adapted to receive tools, etc.
32 designates braces or supports which extend from both sides of the cylinder casing and serve as additional supports for the engine said supports or braces, it being noted, being also secured to the gasolene or fluid tank 1 which thus serves as the main support for the operative parts of the motor cycle. In the present instance, I have shown a tube 33 brazed to the said tank 1 1 and it has a bolt 34 passing therethrough which also passes through suitable openings in the supports 32 and by means of a nut 35 the parts are firmly held in position. A suitable form of belt 36 passes around a pulley 37 carried by the rear wheel 38 in order to drive the mechanism while any form of means operated by the rider can be employed for driving the cycle and for turning the hind wheels in order to start In the present instance, I have chain 40 passing around the same, said chain also passing around a sprocket on the rear wheel. Cranks ll serve to operate the said. crank sprockets.
42 designates a seat which is suitably mounted upon the rod 43, said rod being likewise secured to the gasolene or fluid tank 1 and is preferably so secured as to lie in the same horizontal plane with said tank, as will be evident from Fig. 1. In the present instance the seat is connected with the tank 1 by having the boss 44: connected with said tank, the inner bore of i: which is threaded and tapered and in which w I have formed a strong, light and durable construction and that my fluid tank 1 serves as a continuous upper bar for the frame without any joints, that the cylinder oil tank is connected with said gasolene tank running substantially parallel therewith and is situated, as before stated, adjacent the engine for keeping the oil within the tank in proper condition. I am also enabled to form a strong and neat construction for the reception of the head stem of motor cycle by the means described.
