To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH R. MUELLER, citizen of the United States, residing at Madison, in the county of Lao qui Parle and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wheel Plows, of which the following is a specification.
The resent invention relates to certain new an useful improvements in plows, and more particularly to a novel attachment for the same whereby the plow may be prevented from running sidewise when employed upon the side of a hill.
The object of the invention is to design an attachment of this character which can be readily applied to the plow rod for the purpose of rendering the same longitudinally adjustable, and which will cause the plow to cut the same Width upon one side of the hill as upon the opposite side.
For a full description of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction and the means for efiecting the result, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which:

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
In general the invention is in the nature of an attachment for a plow, the said attachment being designed to render the plow rod longitudinally adjustable whereby the rear furrow wheel can be turned to throw the plow either to the right or to the left.
Referring to the drawing the numeral 1 designates the plow rod which extends from the front furrow wheel 2 to the rear furrow wheel 3 and is made extensible by means of the attachment. The usual plows 4 are shown and a ton ue 5 of the conventional construction is ut' ized for applying draft to the implement.
The plow rod 1 is severed at a point toward the forward end thereof and comprises a front section 1 and a rear section 1'. Ap-
plied to the plow rod at the junction of the two sections is a clamp comprising an upper member 6 and a lower member 6*, opposite ends of the two clamping members being connected by U bolts 7 and the lower clamping member 6 being provided with a set screw 8 for engaging the front section 1 of the low rod, while the u per clampin member 6 is provided with a segmenta rack 9. Owing to the action of the set screw 8 the front section 1 of the plow rod is rigidly engaged by the clamp while the rear section of the plow rod is adapted to slide freely within the same. A second clamp is applied to the rear section 1 of the plow rod and comprises the companion clamping members 10 and 10 which fit against opposite sides of the plow rod and are turned at an angle of approximately ninety degrees to the corresponding clamping members 6 and 6'. U bolts 11 serve to connect the members 10 and 10 of the rear clamp and the member 10 is provided with a set screw 12 designed to engage the rear section of the plow rod to produce a ri id connection therewith. Projecting laterally from the member 10 of the rear clamp is a pivot stud 13 engaging-the rear end of a link 14, the forward extremity of the link being engaged by a lateral pin projecting from the end of a crank 15. Specifically describing the connection between the link and the rear clamp member, it will be observed that the rear end of the link is provided with a key hole slot 19 and that the pivot stud 13 is formed at its extremity with a rearwardly extending arm 20. IVith this construction it will be readily apparent that when the link 14 is swung rearwardly the key hole slot 19 will register with the arm 20 and the link can be detached from the pivot stud or placed thereon as may be desired, while when the link is swung forwardly the arm 20 will prevent accidental displacement thereof. The pivot end of this crank is formed with an arm 16 extending through the base of the segmental rack 9 and having the operating lever 17 applied to the extremity thereof, the said operating lever carrying a dog 18 for engagement with the notches of the said rack. It will thus be apparent that by moving the operatin lever the crank 15 will act through the me ium of the link 14 to bring about a longitudinal movement of the rear section of the plow rod. In this manner the plowrod can be adjusted and the rear "furrow' wheel 2 turned either to the right orto the left as may be required to prevent the plow having a sidewise movement.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. The combination of a plow provided with a sectional plow rod, a member having a rigid connection with one of the sections of the plow rod and a sliding connection with the op osite section, a second member rigid with t e second mentioned section of the plow rod, an operating lever mounted upon the first mentioned member, a pivot stud projecting from the second mentioned memer and formed with a lateral arm, and a link having an operative connection with the lever and rovided with a key-hole slot for receiving t e pivot stud and the arm projeoting therefrom,
2. The combination of a plow provided with a sectional plow rod, a member having a rigid connection with one of the sections of the plow rod and a sliding connection with the opposite section, a rack upon the said member, a crank pivoted upon the rack, a lever rigid with the crank and provided with means for engaging the teeth of the rack, a
second member rigid with the second mentioned section of the. plow rod, a pivot stud projecting from the said second memberland provided with a laterally extending arm, and a link connected to the crank and formed with a key-hole slot for receiving the stud and the arm projecting therefrom.
3. The combination of a plow provided with a sectional plow rod, a clamp comprising companion clamping members applied to opposite sides of the plow rod and having a rigid connection with one of the sections of the plow rod and a sliding connection with the opposite section, an operating lever mounted upon the said clamp, a second clamp also comprising companion clamping members applied to opposite sides of the second mentioned section of the plow rod and rigid therewith, the companion members of the second clamp being disposed at angles to the corresponding companion members of the first mentioned clamp, a pivot stud projecting from the second clamp, and a link loosely mounted upon the pivot stud and having an operative connection with the operating lever.
