FRANCIS'S. RUTSOHMAN, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO HIM- SELF, JOHN RUTSOHMAN, AND VVILLIAM RUTSOHMAN, OF SAME PLACE.
Letters Pzztmzr'zvo. 90,588, mma May 25, 1869.
IMPRovBD MAT-CUTTR The. Schedule refen'ed'to in theseV Letters Patent and making part of the Banie.
To all whmn t may conce'rn Be it known that I, FRNGIS S. RUrsoHMAN, of the city of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and improved Meat-Cutter; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, and in which- Figures 1 and 2 represent views of a meat-cutter, constructed according to my invention7 taken at right angles to each other.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.
This invention consists in a meat-cutter of novel construction, whereby a better and lmore uniform means of adjustment is given to the knives or cutters than has heretofore been given, and whereby the same may be operated as efi'iciently, by the aid of one connecting-rod, as mea't-cutters of the ordinary construction are by the aid of two.
Referring to the accompanying drawings- A is a frame of cast-metal, supporting in bearings -a a, at'its upper extremity, a horizontal shaft, B.
Said shaft B is or may be provided, at its rear end, with a balance-wheeh-B', and, by its rotary mot-ion, imparts reciprocating motion to a vertically-arranged sliding bar, O, by means of a crank and a single connectin'g-rod, D. I
The sliding bar O is ,fitted to slide through bearings or guide-ways formed in the extremities of horizontal arms b b', and is provided, at its lower end, with a Glitter-frame, E, which carries any desirable number of knives or cutters F. i
Said knives or cntters F are arranged parallel with each other, with their cutting-edges in the same horizontal plane, and working, by means of the reciprocating movement of the bar C, up and down, upon a revolving block, G.
The connecting-rod D does not connect, by its lower extremity, with the upper extremityof the said slidling bar, as might be snpposed, but, passiug through an opening in the arm b, it counec-ts with the central portion of said bar, by means of an adjustable block, f. Said adjustable block f is fitted to slide over a threaded portion of said sliding bar C, but is held stationary at any desirable point thereon, when not required to move, by means of nuts e e, whichare tightened against its upper and lower sides from above and square or angular in its transverse section, and the lower guide-way b' made to conform thereto, so as to prevent the turning of the said bar upon its axis.
The 'knives or cutters F are secured to the cutterframe E, in the usual way, and are each provided with an independent means of adjustment, for the purpose of bringingtheir cutting-edges to bear uniformly upon the surface of the block G.
The revolving motion of the block G maybe effected in the usual way- For removal of the meat from the block, or for sharpening the knives, the revolving block G issupported upon a carriage, H, which traverses a railway, or track, I, carrying with it thesaid block.
A gate, J', is provided tothe wall J, surrounding thetop of the block, .whereby provision is made for the sliding of the block from under the cutters, when the carriage H Vis moved along thetrack.
Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The frame A, shaft B, connecting-rod D, sliding -block f, adjnstable cutter-barC, cutter-frame E, knives F, revolving block G, carrier H, and track'I, combined and arranged for operation, substantially as specified, whereby an elficient and convenient meat cutter'is obtained. i
FRNCIS S. RTSOHMAN.
